Running on the genny now, kind of a pain to get that out and setup, had to go out in the pouring rain to run the cable to the generator outlet on the side of the house. Looked like there was already two inches of water in the wheelbarrow. The Atlantic City Electric app already knew about the outage, was surprised to see that only about 1300 homes are down in their whole service area, thought it would be more. They estimate 11:00 PM restoration. We'll see... we had a short outage awhile ago and their estimate was right on target.

Surprisingly warm outside - about 55 degrees. Was chilly in the house, so I built a fire in the stove. Probably gonna get too hot now! :D

The really heavy rain is in a line from North to South starting around the southern Virginia border and up Chesapeake Bay. That seems to be trending inland so far, hopefully it will stay to our West.

Guessing the "narrow line of intense showers" is the one in my screenshot above, headed our way later tonight. :siren:

Power back on again, only out for an hour. Still running on generator until I think I can trust it! AC Electric just sent me an e-mail saying they detected my power is out and it is expected to come back on at 2:00 AM. Their app also says it's out but will be back on at 11:00 PM. They seem to be confused. Just glad it is on now, regardless! :)

[edit]Back on the line, recharging backup batteries. Generator is off but still on the porch, ready to restart if needed. It's getting even warmer - 57 degrees outside now. About three more hours to finish that big map export, then I can shutdown the computer for the night.

That line of intense rain is about to sweep over me. It's about 600 miles long from North to South. If the same movement continues, looks like it will move East and be offshore before long. Another 6 hours to go before the high wind warning is over though (4:00 AM).

Also, I went out for a walk before the rain, around noon. Thought there was a piece of dirt on my pants but it turned out to be a tick - first one I've seen since August! Had to look closely, didn't look like a tick at first - pretty large diameter, very black color and quite thin. Also moving very slow.

It is 4:06 AM and 52 degrees, down from the upper 50s when I went to bed. I woke up at 1AM and it was quiet.

As soon as that narrow line passed me, everything calmed down. Was very dramatic, suddenly the wind stopped and it was quiet. The whole thing was over much sooner than I expected. Waiting for the sunrise to see what everything looks like. Think we got quite a bit of rain. And the next one is coming on Friday!

We lost power at 7:30 last night in P'town but I was I was out at a gun club function in a restaurant in Berlin. My wife called me and said our newly acquired dogs were losing their minds because the smoke alarms and CO detectors were chirping. I headed home and straightened things out and had a nightcap with the wife and dogs by light of an oil lamp.

Power came back on around 3:00 am which I was very glad to see. I didn't have to wheel out the generator and deal with the ordeal of running extension cords through the windows.

Couldn't have asked for better outside temps for a power outage in January. Our house was still 68 degrees with no heat when the power came back after more than 7 hours.

And the next one is coming on Friday!

They already have a new briefing for this one

https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

Will be looking at the rainfal totals when published later today. But, based on my wheelbarrow (has always been pretty accurate), I got 4 inches or more of rain last night! Here's what they are forecasting for Friday. Wind looks about the same but less rain.

Watching that red line on the weather apps made me wonder what it looked like when it came in, so I stood outside and watched it. Oddly, when I first went out, it was raining lightly, but the trees were thrashing back and forth due to the heavy wind. But about 8 minutes before the line hit, everything calmed down, even the light rain, and it seemed to get a little lighter out. Then, when the red line came in, the rain came in sheets, like a giant had a hose with a spray nozzle, and was waving it up and down, like you would do when rinsing a car off after soaping it down. The weird thing to me, the trees were not thrashing around as much as before, it's like the air disturbance was now well above the tree line. The video goes black because the street lights went out temporarily.

In my area, this last storm had higher winds, but not so much on the ground. What I mean by that is that if you looked at trees that were 20 and 30 ft tall, the branches were blowing almost sideways, but standing on the ground the wind was pretty negligible. I haven't had winds here like that in quite a while that I can remember.

Sort of "deja vu all over again" around here. The road I mentioned below was closed for quite awhile, maybe a drainage pipe collapsed? They just re-opened it the day of this storm, went down there the next day and it was closed in a different place, with police blocking the road due to a fallen tree with downed powerlines. Zig-zagged over to the other road mentioned in the post below. It was flooded again at a low spot with rising water from the swamp. Would have turned and gone back, but a car that was braver than I was coming in the other direction. Watched him go through and it was less than a foot deep, so I chanced it. :D

Some flooding around here, just now I had to backup several hundred feet and turn around to avoid going through some deep water that was flowing fast across a small (paved) road. Went about a mile to the next road and it was also flooded by the same stream!

Haha, just drove by there again out of curiosity. There's a big pine tree leaning across the road, supported by a sagging powerline but it's way up in the air, so no problem driving through. A policeman is just sitting there in his car and watching today but not stopping people. Guess the crew from the power company has their hands full elsewhere.

Further down the road, the place they repaired is passable with water going through a new pipe. But only a temporary fix, filled with crushed rock that looks to be partially washed out again. But things really aren't bad around here, I'm sure there are places North and East of here with more problems. And here we go again tomorrow!
