Flood Watch
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
344 AM EDT Sat Jul 15 2023

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of northern Delaware...New Jersey...and
Pennsylvania...including the following areas...in northern
Delaware...New Castle. In New Jersey...Atlantic, Atlantic Coastal
Cape May, Camden, Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, Coastal Ocean,
Cumberland, Eastern Monmouth, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer,
Middlesex, Morris, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, Salem,
Somerset, Southeastern Burlington, Sussex, Warren, and Western
Monmouth. In Pennsylvania...Berks, Carbon, Delaware, Eastern
Chester, Eastern Montgomery, Lehigh, Lower Bucks, Monroe,
Northampton, Philadelphia, Upper Bucks, Western Chester, and
Western Montgomery.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Sunday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- High atmospheric moisture content combined with an
approaching front late Saturday night through Sunday will
result in numerous showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy
rainfall. Fairly widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches

are forecast, with localized amounts of 3 to 5 inches
possible in some areas where thunderstorms are more

persistent. These totals may result in flash flooding,
particularly in flood-prone urban and low-lying areas.
Additionally, there will be some potential for main stem
river flooding following the heavy rain, due to excessive
runoff. The greatest threat will be in areas that have
recently had heavy rain and flooding, were soils are already
saturated, in portions of eastern Pennsylvania and northwest
New Jersey.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. Those living in areas prone
to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

I woke up at 3:45AM and I could hear the rain staring and it poured for ten seconds and lightly rained a few minutes after. As far as I know that is all we got here. But I did see on the radar some places look like they got more.

I think we got a pretty good soaking. Sun has been poking in and out of the clouds now, but I don't think it's over yet. System is now moving through Maryland and Delaware, headed Northeast into New Jersey. Flood watch is in effect for areas along the Delaware River.

24-hour precipitation totals. This time the pattern was reversed and the Southern counties got the most rain, I got about and inch and a half here in Atlantic County.

I can't believe what has happen in central and northern New Jersey. It is sad and alarming how deadly heavy rains can become.

I saw first hand some of the damage today and it was brutal to see the power of water.

Just got back from Millville, sky got dark, not much wind and only very light rain, more like a "sprinkle". Back home, must have been about the same, ground isn't even completely wet. Radar shows that it is moving out now.

The really heavy part was well North of my home but the rest of it came through here. I had been up to my eyeballs in computer code all day, waiting for things to cool down before taking my evening walk, so I was surprised to see that storm of the radar when I posted earlier. Went right out the door for a short walk, but headed back when the wind picked up and sprinkles started. Watched it from the front porch, it rained steadily and the wind picked up but no big deal, it was all over in 15 or 20 minutes.

We also had about 1/2 inch rain last night. Was surprised to see that this morning, I never heard anything overnight.
