We decided to go to Deep Run today and stopped a mile from there to look at something and heard 2 shogun blasts in that direction. When we arrive vehicles were parked there so we left. Hunters were all over today. We found a place we felt they would not be at and explored. Make sure you wear orange.
It was opening day of the first part of waterfowl season for the South Zone Guy. Open until next Saturday, closes and then reopens November 23 and closes January 23, 2025. I wouldn't worry about wearing blaze orange unless you look or walk like a duck. :)

On our way down Hampton Road from 206 we crossed one of the small bridges and it was full of ducks near it and I saw them splashing as we crossed. I backed up over the bridge and they flew. However, they took off and flew in the direction of Deep Run and then we heard shooting. Yikes!

I hunted back here this morning with one of my son’s friends. I like a challenge and I usually hunt the stream. The bog is way too busy on opening day. It was a beautiful and quiet morning and while I was setting a few decoys under the moonlight, a Barred Owl was sounding off in the distance. There was still a half hour until legal shooting time so I just sat on the bank with my boots in the water and enjoyed the show.
There were a few volleys in the bog after first light and we had a flock of 6 Woodies zip by out of range.
A good enough day for me. :)

Haven’t been out to the July burn area in a month. Went out in late afternoon today. The guys were really out there fighting the fire still. Helicopter was very active dropping water and I saw several trucks and a plow by featherbed bridge. It’s the most dry I’ve ever seen, it’s disturbing. Friendship is nearly bone dry along with featherbed. No relief in sight…

NJ Drought conditions here

Looking at the larger map, I'm located just South of the Severe Drought area. Makes sense, because it's dry but I'm not seeing the kind of extreme effects others have posted about.

My wife went for a walk this morning and got soaked. She said it rained really hard for a short while. However, our rain gauge shows nothing.

It rained at work in Marlton. It was an exceptionally pathetic rain but it was also incredible at same time. It’s been so long since it’s rained that when it does it’s gonna be special.
