A Weather Channel meteorologist has found that it isn't our imagination, ridges of high pressure are indeed becoming more frequent and persistant.

Crisp fall air...not a chance, the bermuda high stays put right through the next 10 days. Check out the 10 day GFS model forecast.

It's cool enough to not have to run the a/c, but warm enough to not need heat.

I've been sleeping with all the windows open and not waking up a nasty sticky mess.

As long as my electric bill goes down and my gas bill doesn't go up I'm happy.

67F right now in early October. Not that unusual at all for Northern NJ over my 12 years of experience.

What's going on now aint that unusual, I'm talking about Thursday through Sunday, highs in the mid 80s and no rain in sight. That is crazy for this time of year. There has been a tremendous lack of rainfall, and some trees are dropping their leaves without even changing colors. Also the pines are losing some needles and turning brownish, which is normal in fall but it is early this year, usually that don't happen until Mid-Oct.
Between the dry needles, ground, and brush, I am really concerned we could be looking at more fires. The only saving grace is light winds and high humidity.

But the point is that it isn't. The record high for Oct. 3 is 82F, 1950. The record high for Oct. 1 is 85F, 1953. For Oct. 2 it is 85F, 1954. For Oct. 4 it is 86F, 1941. Of all the record highs for October the latest is 2001, and it is a relatively modest 78F. The hottest October day ever was a 91F day in 1941. The oldest standing daily October high temp record dates to an 84F day in 1938. Maybe we'll set another later this week, but unless we get well into the nineties it will hardly be unprecedented, and we'd have to get above 86F to set any kind of record at all between now and Sunday.
