Wharton State Forest 1966 Visitor Map nearly identical to 2024 draft Visitor Map

Let’s not forget that he gets paid to troll us. He gets paid block out anyone with a different opinion from his employer’s social media page. He gets paid to make propaganda videos and deceitful posts to sway public opinion. He gets paid to try and disrupt any opposition to his or his employers...

Wharton State Forest 1966 Visitor Map nearly identical to 2024 draft Visitor Map

He has no plan on discussing different views. He is on a smear campaign trying to discredit the topos. The ironic thing is he blocks anyone with different opinions then his own calling them trolls. Yet that’s all he does here is troll.

    Controlled burns 2024

Last week they burnt along Pump Branch in Wharton. This map shows where is active and planned each day. https://www.njparksandforests.org/fire/infotools/rxb.html

Wharton State Forest 1966 Visitor Map nearly identical to 2024 draft Visitor Map

Sounds like that the current map is obsolete as well by your description.

Wharton State Forest 1966 Visitor Map nearly identical to 2024 draft Visitor Map

I’m not sure of your point. The 1966 map is a suggested route map which is fine. It involves no closures of roads that existed on the topos of the time. The 2024 version does.

Old Sandstone Mine on the 1870 Vermeule Topo Map

I thought of that as well. Exactly why it’s on my list to explore I have a lot of questions. I’m thinking that the road would be raised at least a little if they were using it for fill. Maybe the the go around was to get by while they loaded wagons.

Old Sandstone Mine on the 1870 Vermeule Topo Map

When you went by did you actually go through it? Also I figured it was low for that type of rock, that’s why I was thinking possibly clay. What do you think was mined from there? Maybe we can meet up and check it out. The last two weekends we got out quite a bit.

Old Sandstone Mine on the 1870 Vermeule Topo Map

Very cool Bob. That area kind of reminds me of another location that I’ve been meaning to check out. Here: https://boydsmaps.com/#17.64/39.707733/-74.615770/mbx3dmidatl/-2.62/0.00 I’ve often wondered what was being mined out of here. The road leading to it could still be seen on the 1930’s...

An interesting prospect with likely pitfalls

I’m sure it was open. 10 years ago. My best would be it closed around 2017 give or take a year. I come home that way and would drive by. I used to see the sign for Bangers and Mash. With my wife’s family being English we have them quite a bit and I always thought of trying them. They always...

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

Referring to the quote the DEP claims that they “added” 10 miles of road that is not on any topos (which I find hard to believe). Bulldozed road started as a firebreak. Looking at the historic aerials in 1956 it wasn’t there and appeared in the 1963 aerials...

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

I see it as not bargaining in good faith. Offering us something that we can’t even use. As far as I know the DEP has no intention on fixing up that bridge. I’d be willing to bet the map proponents would push for it to stay closed as well and keep it solely for hiking trails.

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

I think that the new road is Push line Road. Since it’s not a true road but was a Fireline. Now they want to call it a road and act like they gave us something even though I’ve been driving it nearly my entire life.

    Tar Kiln Locations?

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve been out exploring sites but since the holidays I think we’ve visited 4 or 5. The most recent one we found was here: https://boydsmaps.com/#17.94/39.780465/-74.778337/mbx3dmidatl/-15.99/0.00 I’m not sure exactly why but this one was my favorite so far. The...

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

One of the statements I keep hearing from those in favor of this map is that 98% of Wharton is no more then a mile hike from an approved road. Thats only if, you count West Mill Road. Everyone here knows it is not connected to any approved route or paved road. Making that statement completely...

Resistance Grows to the New Plan to Close 200 Miles of Roads in Wharton State Forest

I see them occasionally but no where near as many as I see in the WMAs. A month or so ago I saw some flying down Atsion Rd on the pavement in front of the cabins. At least 2 to 3 riders per quad and only 1/2 had helmets. Maybe they didn’t know that was illegal. Surely the new visitor map will...
