Old Sandstone Mine on the 1870 Vermeule Topo Map

These photos give some perspective of how deep the holes are. You can stand in some and not be seen. The last photo shows Ron standing on a huge stone. There of course are many still underground.

Old Sandstone Mine on the 1870 Vermeule Topo Map

Ron (Rooftree) had noticed an old symbol for a mine on the subject topo map, and it’s also on the 1885 Cook Topo Map. The mined area is in Bass River Township, about 2 miles northwest of Lake Absegami. Ron visited the site with a friend, and I visited the site yesterday with him, as I was...

    An assault on our rights

We are good to go on Buck Run. The bridge is not out. Went out there with Ron (Rooftree) today to check it out.

An interesting prospect with likely pitfalls

As to making it work, my first thought when I first drove by is; where would customers park? How many prospects said to their driver "ain't no place to park, I know of a place further up 206, not far from here".

The sale is now 'pending'. I'm certain my advertising worked. Which of you jumped on it?

    Indian Chief Tavern

I hitch-hiked up there in 1973 and asked for a waiter/busboy job. They turned me down.

    One More (for the road)

That's the one I was thinking of. Back then I lived in Presidential Lakes and we'd go to Gregorys in Mount Holly for school clothes and see that bar hunkered down there. Do you recall Gregory's? Not sure if I spelled it right.

    One More (for the road)

Yes, I was at the Villa D in the disco period about twice. My main bar was the four mile tavern at 70/72 circle. When I look back, I can say I stopped carousing bars in about 1980. That Corral reference has me stumped. Is that north of 70 on 206?

    One More (for the road)

I've always questioned the naming of this bar. I recall it was named something different before this (I thought it had "for the road" on the end). I've never been inside. Any of you?

Good thing you didn't have to relieve yourself. It says zero bathrooms. I wonder how they got around that.

    An assault on our rights

The Lacey road bridge over cedar creek was repaired about 3 times while I lived there. So for the residents heading north, they brought in a portable bridge to lay it where the foot bridge is at the lake dam; and all they had to do was place it and restrain it a little to keep from movement by...

An interesting prospect with likely pitfalls

It would probably take thousands just to raze it, but that's what it needs, and then set the new dwelling a bit off the intersection if possible.

Yeah, that is definitely one. The other is there are wetlands right behind the building.
