Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

I also attended Rutgers and when introducing myself as from Vineland (mention of which drew a blank stare) someone would eventually say something like "My cousin is from South Jersey. He lives in Freehold." It still cracks me up fifteen years later.

No photo at all. Just a ticket for "operating mv off established roadway at winslow wma" handwritten on it. My previous experience with municipal court tells me that the choices are to either: 1) Pay the fine, or 2) Take off work, pay the court costs to appear, have your argument be ignored, and...

No signs anywhere. There is no road that parallels the tracks, unfortunately. I drove directly on the crossties, straddling one rail, so I guess I'm guilty as charged. It's a lot of money but not enough to be worth missing work for court. It's too bad, I'd love to see the picture.

Definitely. It's become a party spot and people leave piles of cans, bottles, and food wrappers.

I try to keep a mile or so between me and drunk people with guns. It sounds like you guys made a good call there. Not camping-related, but I got a summons in the mail today, from NJDFW, for "operating a motor vehicle off an established roadway" at Winslow WMA dated about three weeks ago. $274...

Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

That's a pretty cynical view and I'm not sure the reality is anything more than the state trying to save a few bucks by not having to patrol all these hard to access spots. With all the staff cuts and furloughs, I'm sure they don't want to deal with the emergency calls that camping there (by...

I guess there's no harm in posting it now, they already know to check the spot. Nice place though! It was fun while it lasted. https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.74775946075361&lng=-74.7671616203803&z=20&type=hybrid&gpx=

I have a coworker who recently camped about 1/2 mile west of Goshen Pond, at the sandy cul-de-sac a little beyond the kayak launch. He actually got busted, got a fine, and had to pack up his stuff in the middle of the night and leave! He's a young kid and I have no idea how much noise they were...

Unfortunately this looks like it will be a year-long thing. If I'm proven right I will be pretty disappointed.

    Blame it on Covid !

Went kayaking sunday at the Winslow WMA quarry pond. Went in through the Winslow Hot Mix driveway but the main gate was locked, apparently because of this. Drove down the RR tracks no problem, as did plenty of other people that I witnessed.

If they are that worried about the bathrooms, just lock them shut. Unbelieveable. I think he means that when it gets dark, people notice the lanterns and walk over to ask about them.

I haven't seen those lanterns since I was a kid, I doubt they've been made in many years. Apparently the mantles are radioactive.

I took my daughter "camping" in the backyard last weekend. Pretty sad that they are using this as some kind of excuse to limit public access in a place where there is no risk or downside. When we go to our usual spot at either Goshen or Lower Forge I assure you we never come within 6 feet of...

Makes no sense: "The New Jersey State Park Service will phase in the reopening of select overnight facilities. At this time, many of our tent and trailer family campsites are available to reserve until Sept 7, 2020. Cabins, group cabins, shelters, lean-tos, group lean-tos, wilderness campsites...

We did move fast, to complete in that time.

In Wharton, Atsion Campground is to open, but bizarrely, none of the primitive campgrounds that are spread out and have no facilities. Seems totally backwards to me. It sounds like it has more to do with staffing issues, or keeping an eye on campers, than anything else. If you've ever camped at...

    Kayaking Mullica

That is what I meant to say. I take out at the ramp on the east side, just past the 542 bridge and river gauge. If you wanted to shorten the trip you could go from First Beach to Constable Bridge. That's probably more like four hours, with decent road access to both.

    Kayaking Mullica

I start here, some people call it "first beach". https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.734148975415906&lng=-74.7110775670803&z=20&type=nj2015&gpx= It takes about five hours to get to Batsto, a few more if you just coast with the current. If you put in at Jackson Road or Sandy Causeway/...

    Storm

Here in Woodbury we had some strong winds and some big trees down. Luckily nothing but a few potted plants tipped over at my house. Driving to work Thursday morning, it seemed like Camden county was hit much worse, with some really massive damage in Runnemede. My cell phone was acting weird...

    Winslow WMA forest fire

Was it in that stretch of woods north of Fleming, west of the expressway? Which side of the river? I assume the east side, since the news reported no structures were threatened.
