    CLOSED

I'm surprised they've blocked off QB, since there's at least one parcel of private property back there past the church. If you turn off to the north either at, or slightly past the CNJRR tracks, there's a semi-used shooting range that can only be accessed from QB road.

    Gas prices

The problem with the newer diesels in light duty vehicles is all of the emissions equipment. Cooled EGR, urea injection (this is annoying but not unreliable, Diesel Particulate Filtration, etc. These systems really choke the performance and economy to the point where diesel isn't worth it for...

    CLOSED

You guys called it. I'm sure some stealth exploring isn't out of the question but I would definitely avoid leaving your car parked anywhere that might be patrolled. As far as I'm concerned the closure order doesn't mean you can't drive any of the dirt roads within Wharton- the larger ones like...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

I've heard stories of people hitting them dead center with .243, .308, etc., and seeing them limp back to their holes, still alive, while you try to line up a second shot. They must be very tough.

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

The reason rifle hunting in NJ would concern me is that a shot, taken and missed at an upward angle, like from behind a blind in a low-lying spot, could send a bullet 1-2 miles downrange in an arc, possibly killing a person where it falls to earth. I understand that a level shot, unless taken...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

If I'm not mistaken, NJ requires either a scope or rifle sights for shooting slugs. No vent rib barrels. So I don't think one can legally just switch back and forth while hunting, without changing barrels.

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

Definitely still legal, but I don't know anyone who uses anything but slugs. Many people would tell you that deer hunting with buckshot is inhumane and leaves a lot of animals crippled but alive. Lots of people have "slug rifles"- basically a scoped shotgun with a rifled barrel designed to shoot...

    Isolation 2020

It sure feels weird how quick this all progressed. From just hearing people complaining about their Iphone shipment being delayed because of what was happening in China, to not even two weeks later my employer shutting down and now everyone hiding at home. I hope things can go back to normal...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

I don't think you'll see any more closures on state property. Buildings and attractions like campgrounds or historic sites have already been closed for the duration. I agree that many of the WMAs have decently unspoiled woods, but during any hunting season, I would wear orange or stay out. And...

Parks, Forests, WMAs open only for passive recreation

I went to the Millville WMA shooting range to shoot a few of my .22s and a paper sign was posted saying the range was closed. I was tempted to press my luck since there wasn't anyone around, but this is NJ, and there's no guessing how they would treat an offense like that if a fish and game...

Travel along the old stage route from philly to egg harbor?

As of two weeks ago, when I was last out there, Quaker Bridge road between the bridge and Washington Tavern was a swamp near the east end. I couldn't get through with my pickup, it looked like a few spots were 2 feet deep with soft bottoms. In the warmer months it's normally passable. If you...

Two South Jersey sod farms see opportunity in youth soccer tournaments. One town loves it, the other is fighting it.

Pretty weird that residents in the area would oppose something that would significantly increase municipal tax revenue. Do they like high taxes? In the decaying industrial town where I live, any new business or commercial ratable would bring welcome relief.

    What is this?

If you want to see this one, I could probably point out its location on a map to within 100ft or so. It was less than a 30 minute walk from Batsto Lake.

    What is this?

I spotted this, and quite a few more like it, in the Tom's Pond/ Constable Bridge area on Saturday morning. It's some kind of hanging moss-- not part of the tree.

    Hikes like Tom's Pond Trail

Batona from Batsto to Quaker Bridge or on to Lower Forge. Or Batsto River Road, on the west side of the same. Mullica River Road between Quaker Bridge Rd and Constable Bridge. Each of these is a half day (6-8 mile) hike.

    Tip Shakedown

Late to the party, like usual. The pump relies on being submerged to exchange heat from the motor windings. It is absolutely true that habitually running low causes undue wear.

NJ to buy 1400 acres near Millville, Holly Farns.

My good friend's mom's 40th birthday party was held in the big house, some years back (approximately 1995). It was operated by AC Electric, and someone in his family was an employee, so they got a deal on the venue rental. I don't know when the property stopped being available for events, but it...
