    This Weekend at Stafford Forge

    Very nice!

    Duck and Cover !

I also avoid the woods this week, for the reasons Redneck stated, even though I’m a hunter myself. I much prefer waterfowling and the solitude of muzzleloading for deer. But I’d like to echo the sentiment that there really is little to fear from a safety standpoint. Getting shot by a hunter is...

    High Crossing never disappoints

I would think twice of even driving a 4x4 through that go around. I think some guys just watch too many truck commercials.

Drove drunk to NJ police station

That's not so hard to believe. Only a few weeks ago I was just about to call the police after frantically searching the supermarket parking lot for my pickup. When I reached into my pocket for my cell phone I also pulled out the keys to my wife's minivan, which I had driven there. Just seconds...

Climbing Trees Does NOT Keep You Safe From Black Bears

Very cool. While I’ve never had this happen to me, I’ve had many other unforgettable encounters and experiences while hunting, having nothing to do with the kill, which would not likely have happened while pursuing other outdoor activities. Hunting often results in a more complete immersion into...

    Wells Mills Trails Open

The trail system at Wells Mills County Park has been closed since the storn due to the large number of hazardous trees on the trails. The trails have been cleared and are open to the public again. The children's playground is the only section closed until the harzards surrounding it can be removed.

    Forsythe Refuge Remains Closed

I did a little duck hunting in the local saltmarsh yesterday myself. If it wasn't for the damage to structures and docks along the road leading to the spot I put my canoe in I would have never known there was just a severe storm. Nature absorbs the punishment we received much better than...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

I dodged the bullet Guy. Water came within three houses of ours. I had trees down but nothing serious. We just got our electric back last night so I've been off the web (no smart phone). Several friends and many neighbors lost their houses. I have three friends of my children living with me for...

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

I couldn't find my coloring books but among the stuff I just packed is a bandsawed decoy blank and my carving tools. I'll stay occupied, wherever I end up. :)

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

I'm considering sending them off and discreetly hiding out here anyway. I'd prefer not to impose on family or friends with two dopey labs in tow. ;)

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

Being a few hundred yards from the bay, I'd likely be pulling up stakes, mandatory order or not. With a wife and three kids to think of, it seems the sanest thing to do, mandatory or not.

    Hunting in the Parker Preserve

Who pays for WMAs isn't relevant in this case anyway. The Parker Preserve isn't a WMA (nor are county parks). WMAs are also not closed to the public during hunting season.

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

Not much choice here. Just got mandatory evacuation notice.

    Dunes or Deposits

I look at that spot everytime I drive by, wondering how it was formed and hoping to expore it one day. It seems my days off are always spent venturing deeper in the woods than exploring what can be easily seen from the road.

    Hunting in the Parker Preserve

I wonder if the preserve is being closed for the hunters or for liability reasons. Since Wells Mills County Park first opened it has had a policy of closing its trails system during the 6-day firearm deer season and the following one-day permit season. No hunting is allowed in the park during...

    Some fall color

Very Nice! I always love the sea of red the huckleberry provides.

    Visit to Oak Island #2

I never understand why anything like this even needs to be tested. It is already known that they naturally nest in tree cavities. Boxes made of wood are the closest thing to what they have evolved to use, and naturally decompose when abandoned. Much of this kind of thing is due to so many...

    Fall trout stocking

Yes, my favorite fishing up there now involves venturing far upstream on the smaller tributaries of the "trout steams" in search of little brookies. I never keep any either. They are prettier than any hatchery trout by far.

    Fall trout stocking

I got my start fly fishing the Flatbrook and other streams in the northern part of the state a few years before they started the fall stocking program. There were less other anglers on the stream then and the trout had several months to acclimate to their new home, giving one an experience...

    Webb's Mill and Carusoeville

There are many other areas that are as good or even better sites than Webb’s Mill for what people go there to see. What makes this area special is how accessible the boardwalk and proximity to the road make it to individuals or groups who might not be able to undertake the types of expeditions...
