Hint: oink oink (unless this is a different spot?)

bull dozed roads past high crossing

Grading can do the job if the holes aren't too deep, but it has to be done right, by putting a crown in the road. Simply grading it flat results in a mess not too far down the road, so to speak. Like many things, it's a little bit skill and a little bit art.

Sand operation could yield fracking riches

Sand mining in the pines? Oh no! Next thing you know they will try to grow cranberries!

    Whitesbog website

I started popping one in my mouth now and then after the Cloverdale Farm aquisition. Now I love them raw. I guess it's an aquired taste and tolerance, much like the vodka my father used to down as I would lemmonade ;) .

    Kindle users?

Anyone use a kindle, or similar reader? I still prefer sitting back in my Archie Bunker chair with a real book, with my flatulent labrador snoozing beside me, but my wife wants one and the little online reseach I did indicates more choices than I was aware of. Just wondering if anyone favors a...

    Its a Frog Slog!

I haven't had a good plate of frog legs since Sweetwater Casino burned down!

    Bitten by Tick?

As far as I know there is no one standard treatment for tick bites alone within the medical profession, as opposed to that for diagnosed or suspected Lyme Disease. Some doctors treat every bite as if the disease has been contracted and others treat only if symptoms are present, siding with the...

    Thousands of Red Admirals

I also noticed a large number of small brown moths in the pitch pines yesterday. I was involved with something else and didn't have time to catch one but I sure hope we do not have another pine looper infestation looming.

Forked River Mountain Cleanup Totals 2012

No Bob, the parks employees are the last ones to deserve thanks. We were being paid to be there on that day. You and all the others who volunteered your time are the heros of the day. :)

Forked River Mountain Cleanup Totals 2012

The area I was in mainly involved several large piles of shingles. Looked like a single contractor dumping on the same road over a period of time. Cameras would be nice there.

Many may lose may Internet in July

I’m fairly technology-challenged myself, but also find it amusing how often people panic and can’t live without something, even for a short while, that didn't even exist a generation ago. If I lost internet service, I'd grab a book off my shelf to read. Maybe I'd even talk to my wife. Maybe. ;)

A crime by the highway: Poisoning trees to make billboards easier to see

While problems related to herbicide use are a legitimate concern, this article seems to be less about herbicides than it is about the killing or removal of trees that the sign companies were not legally allowed to, whether it was due to lack of proper permits or the trees being on adjacent...

    February FROGS....

I spot spent mylar balloons in the woods all the time. I’ve unfortunately come to expect the bottles and cans tossed out truck windows along sand roads but the remoteness of the areas I find balloons always disappoints me. I always assumed that for every one I found in the woods many more made...

Historic Preservation in Wharton State Forest: A Lost Cause?

I think both schools of thought regarding the interpretive signs are justified. Such signs would benefit sincere interested visitors, as well as draw attention to those with poorer intentions. It’s the same dilemma that exists on forums such as this one, when it comes to sharing information on...

Interesting, but the Jeep Gladiator concept vehicle seems to me to be a better bet to follow up on. I know I'd buy one! :)

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

The term “conservation” is a broad and somewhat vague term, but basically, yes. For the purposes we are talking about here that would include managing for habitat or to maintain a successional stage of the forest. Those can be an end result of the burning but cannot legally be the stated purpose...

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

The same NJ air pollution laws that outlawed burning of leaves and other debris make it unlawful to conduct prescribed burns for any purpose other than fire prevention. When these burns are done, other management goals can be tied to them but they cannot be done solely for those purposes. The...

    Attention NJ Forest Fire Service

I’ve previously discussed the subject of posting on public forums with other individuals working in supervisory government positions. There is a good reason you see so few of them doing so, which mostly involves preserving their own sanity. While members of these forums have every right to post...

    The Mysterious Cow of Waretown

Kinda reminds me of the opening line from that Pawn Stars show, where the owner states that you never know what's going to be brought in. At this point I mostly measure the seriousness of incidents by how much paperwork they require afterward. I guess we have to come up with a abandoned metal...
