Christie ordered mandatory evacuations for all barrier islands from Sandy Hook down to Cape May and for Atlantic City casinos by 4 p.m. Sunday. State parks will also be evacuated by noon on Sunday, according to Christie.

Smart man, but last of the coastal guv's to do so.

I live ten feet from the bay. I evacuated for Irene last summer, but I'm going to ride this one out. I have been in two Cat 1 hurricanes. 80mph winds aren't going to bring the house down, and Sandy's winds probably won't even be that strong. Sure, I have some concerns about the water, but unless it undermines the foundation of the house, it's not going to reach the third floor. And if worse comes to worse, I have a Switlik with an EPIRB beacon.

The current NWS forecast is "only" calling for wind gusts of 60 mph. But, from what I've read, the difference is that they will continue for much longer than Irene. I would not want to be right on the coast this time myself. I may be old, but I ain't crazy. ;)

HIGH TIDE IS LIKELY TO PRODUCE A RECORD FLOOD AS MEASURED AT
SANDY HOOK...POSSIBLY 1 TO 2 FEET HIGHER THAN EVER RECORDED
SINCE STORM TIDE RECORDS BEGAN AROUND THE 1940S.

__________

* AT SEASIDE HEIGHTS... NEW JERSEY (OCEANFRONT)... THIS EVENINGS
HIGH TIDE OCCURS AT 711 PM... WITH A FORECAST TIDE LEVEL OF
AROUND 7.5 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER. THE MONDAY MORNING

SPECIFIC WITH RESPECT TO THE TIMING OF SANDY`S EXPECTED

When considering your decisions, remember the likes of this storm has never been seen. All the projections are really educated guesses, as these conditions have never been felt before. Rather safe than sorry in my book.

This site from Stevens Institute, awful lot of stuff here, may help in decison making. Calling for 28 ft surf height at IBSP and LBI. I can imagine what the bays will look like.

Stay safe all.
