The Mead & Crane Sawmill At Sandy Ridge

That's an interesting find Guy, and the saw mill near Carranza was quite substantial, unlike the temporary satellite ones we find around the forest. I started to write a quick reply about my long ongoing confusion about Sandy Ridge, and now hours later I'm still trying to put it all together...

    Fire breaks

It's good to hear from you John. There are areas that absolutely need remediation after the bull dozers are done but it doesn't happen and the new roads bring in the 4 wheelers which makes it worse. Thus we have 1/4 mile after the fire of 99. Alot of us love the pines and the critters but my...

    Fire breaks

They were back today ripping up the area along Carranza Road. Most of it is new. This road was drivable but no more. Horse back riders and hikers used it but some imbecile chose to run a plow down the center of it. The road is here...

    Fire breaks

Hi Chris, They were working the dirt road east of the RR tracks yesterday. Today they were working the paved part all the way to the Skit bridge. They even worked the batona camp side. Doesn't the FFS have to comply with the protected species laws? They should need approval! Ed

The NJFFS has been creating fire breaks along Carranza Road yesterday and today. They're really going beserk, some of the lanes are only a couple of hundred feet apart.

Boyd's Map of the Pines beta available

Boyd, that is a beautiful map. I find myself zooming out and trying to understand what created our mountain ranges. My first impression is that the whole area was higher and that some of it, most of it, was eroded away. I don't think we have the geology to lift mountains.

I'm not sure because if the range of colors stays the same I don't think I will beable to discern the color differences.
