    Tick

Theeeeeeeeeeeeyre heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere! I don't think it's a fluke, now's their time to find hosts. Was it a harsh winter from a tick's point of view? It snowed a bunch, but was it really that cold?

    Time Lapse Photography

Really nice. And I am afraid you've infected my husband. He's made his first purchase toward doing this very same thing. Maybe we can combine kite photography and time-lapse? Ok, maybe not.

    Internet Security Virus 2010

I got it with Firefox. My husband, who fixes computers for a living, uses Malwarebytes and Combofix.

    Snow ??

I feel left out that I won't be there for the storm. I did not expect this as a consequence of moving out of state. :( Out here when it snows, nobody cares. Nothing closes and people don't bat an eyelash. That's the appeal of snow to me, that it makes everything stop. *sigh*

    Snow ??

Well, crap, the rumors are true. I feel like I am missing out being in MI, another reason I wish I were still there. I find this vexing because I am still a homeowner in NJ and I now have to find someone to shovel and plow so the realtor can get in. I was hoping to get away with it.

    El Nino

this snow is working to my advantage, so I am kinda happy about it. My relocation company has asked me to do all kinds of work on the outside of my house in Trenton before March (I moved to Michigan last week), and I really can't because of the feet and feet of snow on the ground. They can't...

    Blizzard Hunt

You probably already know this, but you are truly blessed to have that right in your back yard, a place you can walk to in a few minutes. I love the shot of Hank up to his cheeks in the snow, waiting for you. What a good boy.

    Snow ??

I spent the week in Michigan, I started my job this week, but planned to fly home to NJ after work last night. Fortunately, I was able to take the day off yesterday and get an early flight into Philadelphia. If I hadn't done that, I'd have been stuck in Detroit for days. We have about 8" so far...

    Chigger Bites...! ouch!

Okay, that made my eyes water just looking at it.

    Chigger Bites...! ouch!

If you have itchy bites and find live chiggers at the same time, you are very likely to have been re-exposed to more chiggers. Here's a pretty decent article about the myths and facts of how chiggers operate. http://mdc.mo.gov/nathis/arthopo/chiggers/

    Netflix

We've had Netflix for at least 6 years. It's awesome. Right now we have it set up so we can download movies to a queue and watch them instantly on TV. The newer ones aren't available for immediate download so we still get DVDs mailed to us. It's fantastic. I recommend it highly.

    Breaker One Nine

My husband has a CB, truck drivers still use 'em. Surprisingly, the modern version doesn't really look much different. That middle thing. Leg to a pedal sewing machine?

    life after people

Yes, of course diseases are shared by species, and that is how they are passed around, but most viruses, for example, evolve so they affect one species more than others. There are vectors and carriers, but a virus has very specific criteria for who or what it can infect. Giraffes don't get...

    life after people

No, it isn't really discussed, that's just my logic. And no, viruses like that tend to be mainly species specific. That's why your dog doesn't generally get the flu or a cold from you.

    life after people

Disease, DK. Like the avian flu or some new airborne virus similar to Ebola, might effectively wipe us out. I think it's a very useful thought experiment, actually, because it underlines what our impact is on the earth. This show is so totally fascinating to me, being a bio geek. And I...
