As someone who has had sheep, I can tell you that people often let their pet dogs wander by night, and what you see as a feral dog is more likely to be someone's pet. Their behavior can belie their living situation.

What a fantastic set of photos, thank you for sharing them, they made me smile since I miss NJ a lot, and I miss the pines most of all, I think. What a fortunate person you are to have all of that right in your own back yard.

Good sighting! I don't think they're extraordinarily rare, but I don't think I've seen more than one or two.

Actually, the bulk of coyotes' diet is rodents.

I met this guy on my way to the dock in my back yard. Very handsome. He was cordial but businesslike.
