    How much open space

Very informative link, thanks. I didn't know the true "Jersey" tomato was an endangered species. I just know that most fruits and vegetables grown here taste much better than those shipped in from CA and elsewhere. Yes to the bland "cardboard" tasting tomato's.

    How much open space

Nothing quite like Jersey tomato's with a little salt. Yum.

“Rough and Tumble Pine Plains," A PBX Hike

Teegate This is the point of reference I'm referring to. The county line continues North but is narrow and whooped out from enduro's. The line going off to the right I assume is a township line? They both were a nice "woods road" until the fire. They had to do what they had to do but honestly I...

“Rough and Tumble Pine Plains," A PBX Hike

I was in that area recently and thought the photo looked familiar with the "burn" on one side and the "saved" pines on the other side. The FFS really widened the county line during the forest fire. At one point where the county line narrows and goes off into the woods another township like...

Locations of Wharton Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs)

You get around. Since these area's are public information and consequently closed to motor vehicles isn't the info your compiling available from Rob?

“Rough and Tumble Pine Plains," A PBX Hike

Great pictures. Isn't the plains dissected by a few township property lines and county line? Chris, If I'm not mistaken that "classic pine barrens sand road" is really one of the boundary lines. While it has become a road I wouldn't classify it a "typical pine barrens" road. I do like the shot...

A pond, a stream, and bog

Great shots. I'm just wondering in the middle photo of the dam if that big cedar tree just happened to fall in that spot or if it was cut by the beavers?

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

I think we all know who "these people" are along with Rob's personal feelings as he takes every photo opportunity with "these people" or their commercial interests. Need more be said?

Pinelands Short Course a bit disappointing

Otherwise known as Stevenson rd. When I expanded my range from the Forked River Mtn area in the early '80's the road was a deep almost bloody red. Now it's faded and "bleached" with pine barrens sand poking through while the rest is not much different than any other yellow gravel road in the...

Jeep Jamboree 2016 – WOW! IT IS FINALLY COMING!!!!!

I think most of you are letting your speculations run rampart. I have NO affiliation with this group nor do I even own a 4wd. Let me give a brief run down of what enduro's have to go through. A proposed route drawn on topo maps in triplicate along with a gps route has to be submitted to the...

    A smokey weekend

Their time window is short, then weather, snow, rain, high winds. I remember the big burns in years past but think the possibility of getting out of control and turning into a forest fire which has happened is a limiting factor why you don't see that now.

    A smokey weekend

The last 2 weekends they were burning the rye strips and fields in the Greenwood tract, both sides of rt 539. I asked if they planned on burning any woods between the fire breaks. Yes if he weather permits but said the ground is so damp it wouldn't burn well so that's why they were concentrating...

The Woods Of Atsion Meadow; a PBX Hike.

Thanks, was just curious and thought there must be a uniform height. Out of curiosity I just measured my breast height in stockings at 4'5'' so with work or hiking boots another 1" easily would put me at the 4'6". I suppose the person that came up with this would stand at about 6' tall.

Is there an "official" height at which measurements are taken?

Have you ever felt unsafe in the pines?

I've never been lost, confused for a bit but not lost. LOL Not making light of your plight, I'm familiar where you were, that pond is locally known as Chevy pond. Like many I also explored after the fire and found many trails, old roads and stolen, stripped trucks that were uncovered by the...

While not a common occurrence, I've experienced thunder snow and lightning here in Jersey. Not on Christmas though.

What is this hole in the ground?

Yeah, an old pit blind. While many build shacks above ground I've come across a number in ground and part in ground. I've also come across old rounded holes. Maybe at one time there was a structure but I think they just laid in the hole and covered themselves with a net and natural foliage. I...

    Dirty Rotten Survival

While we all know different, this is the perception those not familiar of the pine barrens have of it. Scrounging through dumpsters in the back of a shopping mall, camping on the edge of a horse farm then having the police drive up. Camping in an auto salvage yard and scrounging. Playing games...

    anyone do truck recovery? help!

The day is near when the MAP plan is extended to this area. The roads I predict to remain open, Beaver Dam, Red rd [Stevenson], Sooy rd and this road which is also known as Long Causeway, but ONLY the part of it from Red rd to Sooy rd. Both Long Causeway and Sooy rd will be bulldozed as wide as...
