    It Could have been Worse

When I was a kid, my father and I used to canoe and hike in the pines. We were with a canoe club and had stopped along the Oswego River for lunch. I was always interested in sundews and pitcher plants as a kid, and had no idea of the bog holes and dangerous muck, I suppose that I assumed that...

    Living with the Snakes

It irritated me to read the comments on that article. As much as his judgment was bad, throwing stones at him for his mistake isn't cool. Also reading the one comment that the person would of (sic) run the snake over, perhaps multiple times. Unreal.

    Anyone here grow their own?

Oh man, do I ever grow my own. I haven't done it for a few years because we live in a townhome and I was using the plot of land where my parents lived. Once the deer got into it, nothing would keep them out, so I decided to wait until we got our own townhome. Also, I have an interesting story...

    Mullica River Wilderness Trail Question

Hi Karl, Batsto to Atsion is the one, the yellow-blazed trail through Wharton S.F. We were going to hike from Batsto to the campground and back. We figured it was about a 6 mile hike that way.

    Mullica River Wilderness Trail Question

Howdy folks, We were planning a hike on this trail, but I was just wondering if anyone could let me know how the canopy is on the trail. Does it provide decent cover? Also, how are the biting flies in these parts? Thanks for any help that you can give. Chilehead

National parks try to attract younger generation

Do I ever agree with you there. My wife and I and another couple were out yesterday with our sons, both 4 years old, and we were observing frogs, crayfish, salamanders, etc. There isn't anything like it. I love watching how much fun the kids have doing this!

    Bitten by Tick?

Consistent with this, if you run into some Guinea Hens in the Pine Barrens, they may have been put there by me. Seriously, why won't the DEP consider this as an option? NJ is loaded with deer ticks and Lyme. They won't eradicate them, but couldn't they help?

    Bitten by Tick?

This hit me all at once. Yesterday morning I had trouble walking, staying awake, or even keeping my head up or eyes open. The Dr. ordered blood tests for babesiosis, erlichosis, and tularemia, as well as another Lyme test. He also wants me to get another Lyme test with my regular yearly check up...

    Bitten by Tick?

Same here on the acidophilus. I take it within an hour of taking the antibiotic. Thank God for that stuff, I remember what penicillin did to me years ago before I knew to eat yogurt with it.

    Bitten by Tick?

I woke up in the middle of the night with chills, a fever and aches. My sinuses were also clogged. It's more likely that it's a sinus infection, I think (hope). Wouldn't it be too early to have any symptoms like that?

    Bitten by Tick?

I saw my doctor yesterday. I still have the bruise from where the tick bit me, which is interesting. The doctor took blood for a baseline for Lyme antibodies and will include another one as part of my yearly bloodwork, about 5 or 6 weeks from now. Told me to watch for any symptoms within the...
