Wharton State Forest 1966 Visitor Map nearly identical to 2024 draft Visitor Map

So they don't update a park map in 60 years but we're supposed to think it's accurate?

New Jersey officials seeking live-in caretaker for historic tavern

Only in New Jersey would they "hire" you as a full-time docent and groundskeeper for a reduction on rent in an room attached to two public toilets in the middle of the woods...

    Are E-bikes motorized vehicles?

E-bikes are motor vehicles, but the riders act like they aren't. There are multiple classes and some don't go over ~20mph so are more equivalent to a regular bicycle; others have more power and are more akin to a moped. E-bike riders ignore the "No e-bikes, no pedal assist" signs at Black Run...

Correlation between bigfoot sightings and black bears?

It's the only solution that makes sense, if you do not believe in the paranormal. Which I don't.

    Forked River Mountain Hike

What Bob said. I got pulled out of a washout a year ago by my Outback's tow hook, and the tow truck driver said it was the only time he'd gotten someone out of mud without it breaking. Now I've got a tow hitch and soft shackles if I need it again. (Felt good to see a 4wd Chevy Colorado need a...

Halloween at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve

I took my mountain bike here and rode the bike trails, and had a great time. Except when I nearly plowed into 3 people and their dog who were climbing a downhill section of the bikes-only trail. I'm glad no one was hurt.

Top chef reveals secret spots in N.J. forests where he finds rare mushrooms in new film

I like hen of the woods, my grandfather and uncle used to forage it. I ate theirs, but even though I can identify it, I buy it at the store because it's cultivated now and I don't have to worry about misidentifying it or a contaminant.

    The bridge to nowhere

If Google was told, they share responsibility with the road owner. They'll close a donut shop's entry in Google Maps in 2 days if you report it. Whereas I've tried to move a washed out road so it directs you to the go-around, and that's ignored.

    A photo to mull over

I'm glad you all beat me to it, by first response was "maddone, that's a lot of scungilli!" at 20 bucks a can that's also a lot of baksheesh on the ground there.

    NJ DEP SCORP

The DEP issued a 318 page SCORP or "Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan" ... I searched for "off-road" and found this on page 83. Depending on what is defined as "abandoned" (if it's being used, is it abandoned?) this sounds like an excuse to close roads and block access to whatever...

    Quakerbridge Run

I've taken that to Quaker Bridge and then cut hard right down Goodwater road. Quaker Bridge road after the bridge had some deep washouts last year, but it's been very dry lately. I haven't been down it more recently.

    Sunshine Park Nudist Colony

This was in Mays Landing, supposedly on Route 559. Looking at maps, I think it's past Lake Lenape Park West. According to a recent paywalled article in the Inquirer, there is still a dock and some cabins. Here's a free article to read...
