DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

This is a terribly written article. "Birders and others who don't use vehicles in the parks..." Yeah, they walk in from the highway, I am sure. The article they cribbed from at the NJ DEP site is here. But the details are the same. Unless we speak up, permits are coming. Here is the link to...

New iPhone may also be a satellite communicator

That's a great feature. I hope an Android phone gets that modem and utilizes it.

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

I remember when geocaches were being exploded by bomb squads...

    Fix Our Parks

I’m going to help clean up Turkey Swamp Wildlife Management Area with a bunch of Subaru Owners at the end of the month. I remember when mountain bikes were considered the “trail ruiners” by my fellow hikers. Now they have been admitted into the fold. I attended the Fix Our Parks meeting for 45...

    "The Legend of Moonshine Forest"

My grandfather was seriously injured at a “murderdrome” when a wheel flew off a racecar and cut through the bleachers.

I’m enjoying all the old photos. Cool stuff. I wish the signs were still around or maintained.

    Fish Hook In Leg

Ouch. Barbs are rough. Glad she’s recuperating okay.

Okay, having a picnic is cool and all....but in the middle of a pine trail?! LOL!

Once the hipsters move in, it’s all over. Rents are gonna triple.

    john mcphees, the pine barrens

Friendship is still there, with ruins to see. They moved the schoolhouse, I think. Other towns are completely gone, like Washington and Mount.

    Fix Our Parks

I'm reading all these and I respect the opinions and stances of everyone here. I come from a hiking background and I admit that I had an "anti" stance towards ATV and dirt bikes, and even MOUNTAIN bikes, because I hiked for years in north NJ where bicyclists and off-roaders sometimes used...

    Fix Our Parks

I appreciate it but I had no signal and had to walk back to the Carranza memorial to even make a phone call, and it was 6pm by then. if it was early in the day I would have. A couple in a red truck, driver named Phil, offered help but the wrecker was on the way. They gave me their mobile number...

    Fix Our Parks

I had driven through this a month or so ago and ass-umed it was the same ... it was not!

    Fix Our Parks

Like this one! I made a bad decision and needed a tow. That's right near the Carranza memorial, I was showing a friend the old Jersey Central line and missed the go-around.

    Fix Our Parks

I’m sorry I couldn’t make it, but I am glad it was productive. And that Land Rover driver must have thought they had an old Discovery. Some friends of mine have an LR3, and they take it camping. Or rather, the dealer rents them one to take camping while theirs is being detailed. Seriously! At...

    Fix Our Parks

I’ll get the next round. I’m a bit further away, and not retired, but I’m free this weekend and tonight.

    Fix Our Parks

Yeah. I'm starting a new job where I'll have weekends free and more money, so I'm going to work on a setup where I can use your maps more. I was at Carranza memorial for the tribute and had no T-Mobile/Sprint, and only 3G/1x on Verizon... do y'all use AT&T or what?

    Fix Our Parks

It's an unrealistic solution. Am I supposed to buy USGS maps and keep them with me so I know where I am allowed to drive?

    Fix Our Parks

This is what I got from them: ”For NJCF's and Pinelands Alliance, as well as the organized enduro(ECEA) and other established vehicle groups, our position is shared that the USGS maps (ranging from 1955-1997 in publication) should be the official road maps of the pine barrens.”

When I write the op-ed I will make sure to put in "enforce the rules against illegal off-road vehicles, so roads can remain passable for responsible use" and see if they want me to excise it...
