I ditto oldcrazy comments. I've spent so many hours hiking and studying species in the pine barrens and have never once seen or heard anything out of the ordinary. There are many odd animal sounds out there, but they are all explainable. It would make sense that the area is the epicenter of...
Young five lined have the nice blue tail. As they get older they lose the blue and eventually turn bronze with an orange head. Boyd were you live you should also have fence lizards and ground skinks too, all harmless.
I once saw the silouette of a GHO on a telephone pole alongside 55. People were suprised I've never seen an owl before but I don't go searching for them, this was totla luck.
I was out in the field yesterday observing a hatchling hognose snake alongside a trail. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a bird land on a branch directly behind me by about 15 feet. I turned around and it was a nice adult barred owl, he then flew across the trail to face me about 10 feet...
I don't think many people from Toms, Brick and Seaside would say they are south jerseyians. I once told a friend from work who live below south amboy that he was from SJ and he was adamant about not being from south jerz.
Personally I don't consider parts of ocean as south jersey (brick, toms, seaside), but it is more of the cultural differences with those areas versus topography, forest type, ecology. If there wasn't people there I would consider them south jersey.
Glad they killed the bear because of the person stupidity.

My exp has been that law enforcement is thin in numbers and many times doesn't head into areas off the beaten path too much. There is lots of coverage around wharton these days its seems, especially around Caranza, however I'm not so sure those guys are always total up to speed on what and who...
I use to see these dopes almost every saturday night heading back there while I was leaving, been a while since I've seen them tearing the place up...def 1/4.
Ed, I got your emails, for some reason I couldn't access the pics. Great shots of the TR, they for whatever reason are not easy to find this year, very poor year for birthing females in the NE.
I was actually able to get within about 20 yards of the buck, I must have been upwind from him. Much to my suprise these were all good size, healthy deer.
Man you guys are brutal, hah. IMO whatever gets you out to the pine barrens is good by me, whether is bigfoot, looking for plants, stones, reptiles, I'm ok with it all.
Maybe they just don't want to pay the extra wage for holiday/weekend. The roads without the lights are just super dangerous because when people see no light and aren't thinking to check they just go across full bore. This isn't even taking into consideration peoples relentless desire to...
For about 20 minutes in the middle of the night it was the strongest winds I've seen and the damage was so widespread...truely impressive storm system. Couple things were striking to me. One there was very little personnel out directing traffic/assessing or cleaning up, its seems as if they were...
I was right in the sweet spot of this storm in Linwood. It was the strongest winds I've ever seen and was a bit scary. Trees were uprooted everywhere and one almost took out our cars in the driveway. Atlantic county is a total mess and the Hamilton area and throughout much of Atlantic county...
