    New Guy (Family)

Welcome aboard Stan. I am confident you will find piles of information here to aid you in your adventures. As for 4x4's, I suspect most people on this site have them. They are pretty much required (pretty much) for most Pine barren exploring. I think the issue that comes up often concerns...

    Pair of Timber Rattlers

I've had a few jersey rattler encounters and they have all been great. The best was one time when i was riding my motorcyle deep in the woods in an open grassy area (I won't say more about the location) it was after a rain and muddy as hell. I saw what I thought was a pinesnake in the distance...

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

illegal target practice is definitely a serious concern, especially if they are using semi-automatic or automatic weapons. Who uses that stuff? I came across a bunch of guys (in a hummer no-less) target practicing in the little pit between route 72 and old halfway once. I suspect these are...

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

That is true, a sign might help diminish the amount of garbage at a known dump site but they (the A-holes) will just go to where there is not a sign and dump there, thereby creating more dumpsites. Jeff

    Just an observation (Rt. 539)

I agree that is going too far. Although, i suppose just putting cameras at known dump sites would not infringe too much on our sense of freedom and privacy, it would set a bad precedent.

New species of pitcher plant found

Great article. Why would someone take them. It would seem to me that only someone truly interested in plants would go through that much trouble to locate them. Is there a black market for rare plants? Jeff

    sharkbite summer

I just finished watching a documentary On Demand called Sharkbite Summer. It is not pine barrens related but I thought I would mention it since it is one of the best shark documentarys I've ever seen. The subject matter is the shark attacks that occured in 2001 along the lower eastern...

To Find A Yellow Crested Orchid

Great photos and congrats on finding the rare yellow crested orchid. I always liked asters and their purple blue color. Because they are somewhat common, they remind of one of those plants that I associate with the pine barrens. BTW I saw some turks cap along 532 the other day. Really...
