    Letter to Jon Corzine

Stu, I envy you. What town are you moving to? Administrations in NJ, whether it be local, county, state or parks and beaches, act like their doing you a favor to let you breath. No this, no that, send me your money. Oh this year we're going to take more money from you than we really need...

    State Shutdown

"I am disappointed in one thing though. If Corzine had indicated the tax increase was temporary until he changed the system fundamentally, even if it took 4 years, it would be easier to swallow." That's the point, he's taken the no talent, easy way out, raise taxes. He's just like all the...

    State Shutdown

There are signs at the Carranza Memorial parking lot saying area closed untill further notice, so I went in, and there were signs on the out house also. I wonder if that cancels the ceramony this weekend? There is also a sign across the street on the road going to Batona camp. I called...

    Help with plant ID

I can't locate this one in my field guide. It was in the beaver pond, downstream of Atsion Lake. It's leaves were like a thin grass. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=447&pos=0 http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=447&pos=1 Yellow...

    Telling awesome tale on film

That day has come for Emmons. He is two years into shooting a documentary on Carranza's life and death, and what he originally envisioned as a 30-minute film has become a 90-minute feature. http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/112-07032006-678683.html

    Box Turtle today

I rescued one from the shallow, 4 ft, end of my pool a few years ago. It definitely couldn't float, and didn't move for hours after, just gasped for breath. My neighbor has a pond frequented by box turtles. They can walk in and out but are always on the bottom, never floating.

    Tick Bite Kills

I had Lyme disease and Ehrlichiosis simultaneously in the spring, summer and fall of 2000. I also have babesiosis, can't get rid of it (think malaria). My hands and wrists were swollen, several of my joints were frozen for months and I was taking 2400 mg of ibuprofin a day. Finally in November...

    coyote sighting

Last Saturday while riding our horses on a trail behind the Carranza Memorial one ran across the trail no more than 200 feet in front of us. It was very gracefull and had alot of fur. A good looking animal. We often find we can get closer to wild animals on horseback than on foot. They often...

    Gypsy Moths

We're loaded with them here in Tabernacle. We're thin, but not striped. They're almost all done eating and have begun pupating. Next year will be devestating. Late winter township requested homeoners to report the number of egg masses per acher to decide where to spray. We had hundreds. The...

    Mountain biking trails?

There is a mountain bike trail that was laid out about 2 years ago that starts / ends at Atsion. The markers loook like this: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=277&pos=2 It follows more heavily traveled roads so there won't be quite as much sand. There are...

    Concrete barn at Atsion

I drove by it yesterday and they FINALLY cut down the trees growing into the foundation. Now maybe it will last a couple of more decades. All of the vines on the inside looked dead also. The vines made a nice effect but were probably harmful. There is a snow fence around it now. Ed

    Ace Campgrounds, Re-Revisited

Very sad. Finding that place by kayak and in pristine condition was quite an experience. It was 3 years since it was abandoned and it was like they just left. Nothing lasts. Ed

The railroad bridge over the Batsto has been paved

The bridge is nowhere near Lower Forge. Go to Hampton Furnace and take the access road. The bridge is here: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4400689.00011473&e=527468&datum=nad83

The railroad bridge over the Batsto has been paved

No, it's very dense, I don't see it as being a useful trail unless some group clears it. Maybe that will happen, but it's a BIG job. The only place someone cut trees was on either side of Carranza road, and they were dropped diliberately across the tracks, making it impossible to walk or ride...
