    Bald Eagle sighting

Eagles are oppurtunistic from what I've seen. The eagles at the Parker Preserve, feed mostly on turtles. This year I found turtle shells throughout the preserve in odd spots....big turtles too, like 14 inch redbellies and one good size snapper.

Many of these companies welcome volunteer efforts. So if anyone wants to do something to improve the land just contact either organization.

    Oswego River Preserve

From what I've seen TNC and NJCF don't share responsibilities for land. I could be wrong, but don't recall seeing any land that is duel owned. TNC may not have the funds to manage the property. I've seen them(tnc) working on properties in the bayshore areas, but that is because they have an...

    Oswego River Preserve

Guy, any idea what kind of land that was in the before picture? Cranberry Bog? Guy, you are right for the most part I've found TNC(the nature conservancy) buys land and then leaves it as as. NJCF(new jersey conservation foundation) for the most part manages the land once purchasing it, I'm...

    Quote from the AP

Not sure if I think they will win the Bowl, but there is something to be said for peaking at the right time and playing on house money. You see this in every sport, the phillies peaked at the right time, as did the Gints last year, and pittsburgh two years ago. We'll see what happens, but this...

    Formosa Bay, NJ?

Jerseyman, Thanks for the info. Is the first book on this page the one you are referring to? http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=kalm%2C+peter&bsi=0&x=92&y=21&prevpage=3 Thanks Chris

    Formosa Bay, NJ?

Jerseyman, I'm going to check out that book ASAP. Reading historical occurences of creatures in this area is what I'm facinated by....particulary a creature that once lived only a few miles from were I live. I wonder if this isn't a timber rattlesnake as 'Irish Hill' has the elevation that...

    Possible Sighting!

Jeff, you are right, I always confuse that. The red wolf is thought to be a cross between coyote and the grey wolf, and not a separate species. Maybe what we have here is a red wolf....or maybe it is just coyote's that are getting real big due to lack of competition for food sources.

    Possible Sighting!

The first pic in the mud is not a cougar track. It looks like a dog-like track to me. Cougar have a double scaloped heel pad in the rear and a single in the front. Also no claws will be seen(possible in sand though). Cougars while reported from time to time don't really occur here...

    Possible Sighting!

The yote's I've seen in NJ are quite large. My brother in law's, brother in law is from Oregon and he was with me while driving home on the parkway when we saw a yote cross the road.....He said they are significantly larger here. It is been said that the breeding with the red wolf has resulted...

    Formosa Bay, NJ?

Jerseyman, Thanks much for that info. I think the area you indicated is correct as it makes sense from the context I was looking at. I do know 'bays' sometimes refer to vernal pools, gravel pits(ie Carolina Bays) so realistically I could see the two words being somewhat interchangeable...

    Sorry conditions off Jackson Rd

I've never met the lady that lives there but I've met her husband(i guess) and dog(black lab). The husband from my conversations with him was a Doctor, he owns a good chunk of property .25 mile each way from their house and back. The husband who is at least in his late 80's is a real...

    Can anyone tell me....

Thanks Guy. I though it was a section of the Wading. Something about that river, has sections of it that to me are unique from what I've seen of other pine barrens streams. Is there other streams out there that have those nice, lush, grassy, sedge like habitat adjacent(versus sandy banks)?
