    Overnighter

Wow! I'm glad you and your son had such a great experience. Like others have commented before me...I think you did a great job of describing that sun rise. Jeff

    fishing the Rockwood bogs

yeah, I have heard that also. Clearly Scott has also. I haven't seen it. I did see a chainside go after a watersnake though. That must say something. I'll tell you, during that frenzy I experienced a few weeks back I wouldn't stick a finger or toe in the water. Literally they were hitting...

    fishing the Rockwood bogs

Minnows (killi fish) are very good. Lately I have been using artificals: Plastics like curl tails and shad. The thing is this...here is the secret...nope, just can't bring myself to give it away...okay, I'll give it up...the color white. enough said. Treble hooks are bad news so I go with...

    Speedwell Cranberry Harvest

Nice report Jim. Great photos and a very nice step by step report of the cranberry harvest. Very detailed. I am surprised that much of the machinery was designed by the Lee family. I wonder if Haines and (formally) DeMarco had to design their own machinery as well. Jeff

    Hunting Seasons Begin 9-13-08

Actually, I prefer it after the pines reclaim it.

East Plains 8 minutes in moonlight

Nice pic. The star streaks remind me of shooting stars. At the height of my insomnia a few years back I would frequently drive out into the plains and look for shooting stars. Jeff

    Hunting Seasons Begin 9-13-08

If you are referring to the Franklin Parker Preserve, I am nearly 100% certain that no hunting or fishing fee income went toward the purchase of that 10,000 acres. It is owned by the NJ conservation foundation which is not associated with any state funding as far as I know. Jeff

    fishing the Rockwood bogs

That could explain it. It was an alarming noise. Inncidently, after I moved upstream to catch that last fish, a medium sized snapper stuck his head out of the water nearby to check me out and quickly submerged once his curiosity was satisfied. While still in the rockwood bogs and heading up...

    fishing the Rockwood bogs

Today I got out to do some fishing in the rockwood bogs. My first time fishing these particular bogs. Two weeks ago I had the fortune of hitting one of my favorite fishing holes just after a fast. (pickerel fast for long periods of time and when coming out of a fast are particularly active...

That's a very good point Guy.

    Buddy Coyote

Wow, interesting Bob. As I am sure you are aware coyote and domestic dog have not always had the best history together. Short of running into a pack (although I think a pack would stay very clear of any human) Buddy could run into trouble if approaching a den site. Coyotes won't be den-ing up...

Exploring the Jonathan Godfrey Tract (Parker Preserve)

Wow, nice trip! I must have missed that invitation thread/post. I had my hands full with my two year old's birthday party today. Now, I've explored the bogs in the parker preserve west of 563 but I believe this is the area along 532 east of 563? I've been to some of the woods there but not...

    Autumn bears.....

that would be a good idea. Despite their growing population many of us who spend a great deal of time in the woods have yet to see one. Come to think of it, a sighting thread might stay blank for a while. Jeff

Fisrt Timer for NJ Off Roading

the great swamp area is significantly more difficult to travel during a wet season. And during a drought the sand gets bad. Watch out in the winter though...falling through an iced over mud hole is rough, even with a 4x4. The most accessable road is the one Guy has pictured, running south of...
