Done. Yes they were the ones that you and I walked over to when the thunder hit.

Penn Swamp Branch, a PBX Explore

Ted, That was my fuzzy pic from my cell phone. I did act on your direction and edited the captions appropriately. Now, if Guy would like to replace my fuzzy pic with his higher quality pic in my post as a site Administrator, I give him permission to do so. :) Scott

    Charles Kell, Atsion Cemetery

Leason Small was the Wharton Estate caretaker and the man from whom Y-Buc Bill would obtain his annual Wharton hunting permits. (Prior to NJ purchase of the estate) I will ask him tomorrow night if he has any old copies of those permits.

Penn Swamp Branch, a PBX Explore

Whoops ! Sorry Ted. I did take a picture of prismatica but on my phone. I deleted it because it wasn't very good. The others were taken with the camera and the versicolor was the only one of the day that was in bloom. Well, I recovered the fuzzy iPhone image and here are the two images...

Penn Swamp Branch, a PBX Explore

To me, the Penn Swamp Branch area we explored defines the Pine Barrens. I have hunted solo many years ago in areas west of the Branch and my sons still remember the deer exclosure fencing around the cedars installed years ago along Quaker Bridge Road when we would take a Saturday night ride...

    Ticks explode

I bought the stick punks too from Campbell's General Store in Gibbsboro when I was a kid. We also dried our own picked from various local swamps.

    marlton windmill

Yes Ed, Holly Ravine was the name of the farm overall and the Cowtail Bar was the ice cream parlor on the farm. I have an ash tray from Matlack's.

    marlton windmill

Here is a somewhat crappy photo of the ice cream stand and a really cool pic of one of the Savich family members subsoiling with a D4 Cat. http://jsf1.homestead.com/SavichFarm.html I used to make the rounds with my family between Holly Ravine, Savich's and Matlack's in Moorestown when I was a...

    My First Rattle Snake

Welcome to the site Jack G. If I heard it rattle it would have been enough to convince me ! From my limited knowledge though, it did look like a pine snake. While I don't consider myself a snake hater, I would say I am a strong disliker.

    Where is this?

Not so fast there Mr. Thompson. That building in Bob's picture and your picture appear to be one in the same ! Note the architectural features. I think I might be a winner.

    Where is this?

On second thought, I don't think Pinewood Antlers would fit on that sign along with Club.

    Where is this?

Bob, Is it on 532 going out to 72 leaving Chatsworth ? Is it Pinewood Antlers ?

What is this sound? Frog? Bird?

    All over my yard today.

What is this sound? Frog? Bird?

Well then, you need to spend more time in the Pines ! If that's even possible. :) I have noticed them sounding off everywhere this week. I heard them mid-day in Brooklawn on Friday. It seems to me that they are more prevalent in hardwoods.

    NJ State Policy for Geocaching

Someone I know received an email from geocaching.com. today. The choices: 1. Get a permit 2. Remove your caches on State lands. 3. State will remove them for you. The third option should be fascinating from a logistics standpoint.

    Forest Fire at Atsion

Just got home from a late meeting and I can't see the glow from Chew Road. Hoping things are improving.

    Wonka Wonka

Did a little walk through some big woods tonight with my son and the dogs and much to our surprise, we came across a tiny spong full of wonkers. (Pine Barrens Treefrog) Around 6:30p.m. tonight I only have a a brief video but you'll get the idea. We approached within about 50 yards and they gave...

    Where is this?

I was at that bridge two weeks ago too. It spans a canal associated with the bogs that eventually became Paradise Lake Campground.

Hiking the Parker Preserve Red Trail

Very nice Ben. The Simpson's Sky was painting a stunning background for you in nearly every picture. What a day for pines photography.

    Where is this?

Would loved to have walked that road in 1930. I am probably not going to make it back to the other bridge that Bob spotted this week. I will let you know when I do.
