    Mercury

Chainside is another name for chain pickerel. I have also heard pineys just call them pike, which is fair enough since real pike (northern pike) are pretty infrequent in the pines (they might be in a few lakes). Pickerel are, of course, part of the pike family. I think down south they call...

    remote bogs

That is interesting. I have come across these dens many times. Often on a brushy decline but sometimes on level ground. I have seen fox dens on steep declines as well. On a fairly recent occassion I was with Bob and Scott (Rednek) and I showed them a couple of these dens as they were near...

    Mercury

The high level of mercury in pinebarrrens chain pickerel have significantly reduced my consumption of the fish. I used to always eat my sizable catches but I have since had to change my ways due to this health concern. The fact is the bass and pickerel in the pine barrens have higher mercury...

    Thinking about Aserdaten

Yes. I recall there being a thought that it would have been odd to have live stock that close to human living quarters. If Guy or Bob want to chime in to confirm my recollection, it will help to confirm if I am remembering correctly.

    Thinking about Aserdaten

If I recall correctly, the lack of undergrowth, relatively younger and sparse trees compared to the rest of the woods near the ruins, lead us to suspect an old clearing. We guessed that could have been the deer farm. But that is my memory of it, maybe I just thought that. Jeff

    remote bogs

I saw two herons. I suspect I would have heard frogs but I left the area just before the prime dusk calling time for them. Mostly I heard alot of green heads buzzing. I left the back window of my bronco open and, I kid you not, I must have had 150 of them in the truck with me. Fortunitely...

    Kayak to Bodine (not exactly)

Glad the day turned out well in the end. It seems from the text that you have some doubts that you had entered on the wading river? Where exactly did you put in? Jeff

Aerial photo's "Then & Now" - 56k Beware, contains big images

Bob, there is a spot in Lebanon where the fence has been successfull also. Seperate from that, do you recall those bogs I took you to off of 70 where they had the deer fence? The cedars are doing well in there also, although in some spots it is maple and blueberry dominant to the exclusion of...

Aerial photo's "Then & Now" - 56k Beware, contains big images

Guy, What a difference. Do you recall that there was an overgrown blueberry field to the south of the mill? I don't evidence of that on either photo. Maybe it just didn't come out.

    Thinking about Aserdaten

I thought the location and ruins that Bob took us to where indictive of a settlement and livestock operation (remember the clearings) The higher elevation on the east side of the road seemed more likely than the west. Jeff

    remote bogs

No, that is pretty far off. I will give you a few hints on the pm. I certainly don't want to make this area common knowledge on the open forum. Jeff
