    carranza road,rewriting history

I think they are just letting it regrow. It was for the lumber. I haven't been past there in a bit but I didn't see any signs of cranberry bogs or blueberry rows. Jeff

I was under the impression that coyote season had passed, but upon checking the nj hunting seasons I see that coyote season extends from 11-11 to 2-19 or somewhere around that date. I stand corrected on that comment. However, I don't believe the is an over population of coyote in the pine...

    Big Guns

I wouldn't say there is an over abundance of them. Not by a very long shot. A game warden said to shoot them on sight!!! Wow, that is illegal. He shouldn't be telling anybody that. His call on them being too numerous seems highly subjective to me. Coyote historically make themselves very...

Melancholy Pasadena, the saddest place in the Pines?

Great thread! I knew of the Clevenger story from having read the Beck books but I was unaware of the other stories. Thanks for sharing that information, very interesting. Yeah, I guess it gets my vote for the most meloncholy. Jeff

A few thoughts on the weather

I'm not too sure where the black widow comment came in but, yeah, I will second that they are in the pines. Also, it does amaze me how many people drive huge SUV's that never go off the pavement....ever! Medford is full of hummers. I never see a hummer in the woods. Jeff

    Warren Grove Doing Controlled Burn

Bob, you're saying that the fire doesn't get hot enough to open the pygmy pine cones? Is that right? and if so, do you know that as fact. Seems like the east plains pines have stayed smaller than the west plains pines. Jeff

    Big Guns

Bob. I didn't see this thread till after I got your email. So they took the fur from one and just left the other to rot. That is wrong. I think hunting is supposed to include the collecting and hopefully consumption of the prey. If not consumption at least they could have taken the fur from...

    1950's campground

Welcome aboard Pineman! When I was a kid in the early 80's my family/church/boy scouts would always use Micks canoe rental for our Pine barrens excursions. Micks canoe rental is a pine barren staple in my opinion. Many of us here are aware of the significance of the Mick family in the area...

    West Plains Waltz

Great photos!!! That is some serious sphagnhum moss. I like the way the light plays on it. You have a great eye for photography!! I heard some coyotes back in there one time when my wife and I were hanging out on that dock behind the cabin. Jeff

    West Plains Waltz

I know the trail you are refering to. There used to be a small hunting club/cabin at that dead end. It was demolished a few years ago. The first time I found it, it freaked me out...I thought I came upon a piney house in the middle of nowhere and was going to get a shotgun reception.

    West Plains Waltz

The main trek took place east of the Red Road along, and north, of the plains branch. Yes, alot of hunting activity in there. That shot that looks like the lake...it is funny I thought that maybe you would think it was of the lake, it looks like that. It is actually at the head waters of the...

Welcome aboard. that house, sits across from The old timberline campground. That is right, the chips folley road comes out just on the other side of the bog. Anyway that house has been for sale for a while. It is amazing!! you can look at it on line. I think they want like a million for...
