    Hiking in Pygmy Pines?

Yes it is permitted. This would be the area on either side of 539. Toward the northern/west end you can get back further before hitting Federal land trespassing signs. Obviously you cannot hike on the Federal land. The other side of the road can be a bit tougher going for hiking. You can...

Audubon Society says log, burn Pine Barrens

I have always been a strong advocate of leaving things alone and letting nature take it's course but I must admit I can see the argument for fire. 1)wild fires are estingished quickly 2)controlled burns compensate for this, safely, with less fauna death. 3)the down side is that controlled...

Spy camera results-no bobcat but interesting finds.

Now you see, I was thinking the head looked more yote than fox, the fox having the very narrow "stream lined" features. But the lack of fur is very evident and the size is more in line with the fox. The head didn't come out real clear with the positioning and the flash. So, I'll go with your...

    Im A Dad

Thanks for all your kind words. We are back at the house now. He is doing well. Here is the picture I promised. I took it tonight, he is four days old. Cute huh? I'll have him fishing and hiking and canoeing in no time. I should probably wait till he weighs more than the fish though.:)...

    Im A Dad

Well, it is official. Jack Alexander Larson was born October 5th at 12:46 pm! 10 days early and 13 1/2 hours of labor but he is healthy. Weighed 5lbs, 15 onces. He has lots of dark hair and deep blue eyes (eye color for now). I just got back from the hospital to clean up all, then I will...

An EYE opening show on LI's pinelands..

Wow! Thanks for posting that video. So Levy calls Amper an extremist on camera. He doesn't deny the contributions from the building association, and tries to turn it around "how much did you contribute to my campaign." Man that is rough. Amper clearly has strong conviction but I don't think...

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

Cool!! This is a great time of year for fishing but water levels are higher than usual. Which makes it slim pickings. The fall drought is usually a hot time for pickerel. This summer, however, was the best pickerel summer in about 7years.

    Mega-Stores coming to Medford Crossings

That sucks. I used to live in Medford. I work there everyday and the traffic is getting progressively worse every year. The farmland buffer between the developed areas and the barrens is on it's last legs, almost gone. Jeff

    Hunting Seasons Begin This Weekend

It is like any recreation in the pines, there are always bad apples. There are always going to be the weekend warrior hunters from out of town who think they own the woods. Or the hunting clubs that move through the woods like a swat team. There are also the local hunters carrying on a long...

    Kayaked the Sedge Islands

When you go into Island Beach SP you can get a map that outlines two canoe/kayak trails, each approx. 2-3 hours long. However, once I started out I ended up exploring randonmly for about 4 hours. I thought the trails were hard to follow with out a GPS, but it is easy to explore without losing...
