Fans turn out for oak that may be 6,000 years old

There were 2 gravel pits operated by Buzby Brothers that were excavated by dredge in the town where I grew up. They pulled a lot of petrified wood out of those. My father brought some home when I was little and I remember taking it to school for show and tell. I think some was donated to the...

Ben What is the easiest way to do that? Simple right click and "save as" on each and nest it back into "my pictures" on my hard drive? Scott

    Widlife Management Area Milestone

The last "real" Game Warden we had was a long time ago and his last name was Hutchinson. He was everywhere. He retired in the 80's and has since died. He is the stuff of legends around these parts and a lot of older hunters down here have interesting cat and mouse stories of their encounters...

    Widlife Management Area Milestone

Fish and Wildlife is responsible for patrolling the WMA's, not Parks and Forestry, who handles the State Forests. However, Fish and Widlife CO's have overlapping duties in patrolling the State Forests for fish and wildlife matters. F&W has a presence in WMA's during the various hunting seasons...

    Widlife Management Area Milestone

Here is a NJDEP news release I got today at work via the DEP email list. Pretty impressive that we have 304,000 acres of WMA's. Interesting too how we exceed NY state and the other mentioned New England States. Add in the State Forests and you'd swear there weren't any people living here...

Ben I lost almost all of my pictures in December due to a crash. A lot of my favorite photos only live in the gallery on this site. I would not be able to reload most of them. Scott

Going hunting with the Vice Prez? Bring a flak jacket...

Dave One of the most common misconceptions about shotguns and their effectiveness, is that the smaller gauges are weaker than the larger gauges. In reality, there is no difference at all between gauges in the lighter shot loads such as that used for small game. Buying your kid a .410 as a...

Going hunting with the Vice Prez? Bring a flak jacket...

New Jersey charges a licensed resident hunter $40.00 for a Quail Stamp on top of their regular license fee. Texas only charges $7.00 for their quail Stamp. It looks like hands down Texas offers the better deal becuse you are entitled to one lawyer with your stamp as a bonus. I wouldn't mind...

It is a pretty sad statement about the State's quail population when people here have to debate what kind of bird a dead quail is. Quail were very common not too long ago. There are almost no native quail left in NJ and the only real hunting is on private pay game farms and State Wildlife...

Well i am posting after 6:00 p.m. so I guess I lose the money prize. I will share my photos anyway. We spent most of the day in the woods and these photos were taken right here in Pestletown on the bogs near my house. The moonrise was beautiful...

Thats okay Ben. We used to have one too when the kids were little but that didn't stop me from hunting the native ones. After all, dem's good eatin'. We had a good day and the dogs were the best they have ever been. The only disapointment was the lack of snow. It rained from 11:30 until we...

I am going bunny hunting in Alloway today over dogs and I am hoping we get to see the snow before we are done. I will make sure I have some pine trees in the background if I snap a few photos. I could use $2.5 million right about now.

    The Pump Branch

George, Here is the link to the USGS real time streamflow data for the station that you were looking at today. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nj/nwis/uv/?site_no=0140940810&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 Copy and paste. It is neat to check it out during or after a major rainfall event to see the spikes...

Monroe Residents Out To Squash ATV Park

Even if Monroe became a reality, I am not the kind of person that would use that kind of facility. I don't think Largo is either. The Chatsworth facility is a genuine success with the facilities that they provide and I have toured their facility but it is not for me. The average Joe Schmoe...

Songs of the mill eh? I wonder if it went like this? CHORUS I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing, And hang around in bars. Mounties: He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps, He likes to press wild flowers...

There is still a semi active sawmill about 1/4 mile north of the Pic on 206. At least it was active the last time I paid attention. The guy who runs it is known as Spike. ZZ Top's cousin if anyone has ever seen him in the Pic. A couple of friends of mine who run tri-axles used to get their...

    Wilderness Camping

I did the Lower Forge site a few times in the early 80's and it was a near-wilderness experience within a reasonable hike from Batsto or Atsion stations. I left my truck at Batsto. Lower Forge is still nice and sees little or no use this time of year. Scott
