    Missing Woman

I thought this was odd too. I would guess that the underlying reason is because, even though the Wawa is southeast of the 70/72 circle, which should put it in Woodland Township, it officially describes itself as being in Vincentown: https://www.wawa.com/locations/0388 Even some sources for...

    Spring/Summer Flora

Hmm. I don't think I can see it being sand blackberry. It looks like R. cuneifolius has prickly stems, which this did not. This has sturdy, woody stems. My best guess was Crataegus uniflora, maybe. It shows up in Howard Boyd's book, anyway. And it has some local observations.

Some kind of hawthorn? Toadflax? Black locust?

    "Not What You Think" Oak

Just following along as I'm trying to learn a bit and I find this interesting. Especially that they probably got the identification wrong! I think the professor was likely correct. The acorns look more like Shumard Oak. Seems like another way to tell would be to look at the terminal buds...

    Geomagnetic Storm

I tried last night, but there was really nothing to be done about the clouds. I thought maybe I would be able to find a hole, but no such luck. As was mentioned, there was some light in the northwest sky - but I am pretty sure this is just light from Philly hitting the clouds. It seems like...

    Geomagnetic Storm

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/10/science/solar-storm-earth.html?unlocked_article_code=1.q00.ShLL.bkZI727ZAHKQ&smid=url-share It's unlikely that even a G4 event like this could make the aurora borealis visible as far south as the Pines, and the weather this weekend will not be cooperative...

    Spring/Summer Flora

The pollen is really in full swing right now. It's like a green snowfall. We need a nice rain shower to help wash it away.

Land clearing near AC international airport

Isn't almost all of that due to inflation? $240,000 in 2002 is equal to about $417,000 in 2024. So actually the increase is more like 5%.

    Spring/Summer Flora

Walked along the Mullica today. Also saw Hudsonia, and sand myrtle. Did not see a whole lot else in bloom.

    Spring/Summer Flora

Yesterday, success. Just needed to shift the search a bit further into the swamp. This spot is really, really nice. The cedars, and the flowing water, and the pink. Just serene. It's great to see so many, even though most are not in bloom.

    Where is this?

There is another one of those near the Batona Camp. Is it for groundwater testing?

    Pinelands Fishing sites recommendations.

If you want even more specifics, I think at around the 4:20 mark he is probably right here. I could be wrong though. There are a couple of spots in the preserve that look just like that. I love it back there, it's very pretty. And fishing is allowed. Watch for bald eagles, they may compete with...

    Spring/Summer Flora

I returned yesterday to check. Still looking good, but they are not ready yet. The area is a lot more flooded right now. Couple of other things.

    Speedwell

If it's alright to resurrect this thread: I read this post some time ago, and thought that this lead sounded interesting enough to plan a future visit to Winterthur at some point. Yesterday I visited the estate (which is very beautiful, by the way) and also made an appointment with the library...
