ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

Dave asked the PPA representative about federally protected bats that have a habitat in the Pine Barrens. I believe he also asked the environmental committee. He was referring to the trees that had been taken down.

I felt she was a 'spin doctor' for the DEP and she was trying to figure out the hot spots that the DEP needs to address the quickest and that is why she had no answers. She kept asking us to inform her of how we use the forest and to email her. I was wondering when she was going to tell us...

I think you are correct Ben because that makes perfect sense. And thank you for finding an answer to this.

So the converse would be that they can close roads that are open currently under the MAP due to maintenance concerns? I do understand that there is nothing in place for the roads to be reopened once maintenance is completed or that the maintenance is not even scheduled yet, but I feel that they...

How frustrating is that? And I am sure there is a grant to assist one of them in fixing this bridge. Hopefully the FFS will not need access to the road from that end in the near future. I would think that giving the FFS the easiest and safest access would be a priority.

I did not realize there was a second page to the MAP. And it has a picture of one of the signs. http://www.nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/maps/wsf_motorized_access_plan.pdf

. They claim that the roads that have been closed so far are not part of the MAP program. They claim that the Recreational Trails grant money, which was not allocated for trail closures, did not get used to fund the closures that have happened thus far. Whether or not the signage was paid for...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

During a drive down Batsto Fireline the other day, I noticed that one of the little brown signs was cut off at about 1 inch from the dirt to allow someone to drive back to the Lock's Bridge area. I don't think this is good for any group that is opposed to this closure and the resistance we are...

I would go with don't drive over anything to get past the little brown signs and the debris that has been placed in the way. Until this is resolved with them I will go with respecting those signs.

To me this seems like propaganda to show the positives, in their minds, for the MAP and something they will us to promote their side.

I am curious about the different reaction that Rob had in this discussion as compared to the response another received when asked about an open forum meeting. Does anyone else see the difference? And where can we find out the information for this grant money that is referred to concerning this...

So since there is no reference MV violation by number, would it be safe to say you will get a DEP fine/ticket from the SPP? I can tell you I took one trail that was not marked to see where they marked it (if they did) and I never found one. It is on the map now. It is not a wetlands or...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

In looking at the map of damaged and areas with trash, I found 3 different ones where the same photo was used for 2 different sites but maybe that was a mistake I made. I am just unsure why every picture is labeled ORV, truck, damage, even ones that are just trash. Am I to guess it is because...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

I think there have been suggestions about making it a permit only area. But most of the complaining we are doing is that there were no notifications about the closures and when they would begin, so we could work together to see what was planned. We are not asking for more roads to be created...

I too, am concerned with the lack of communication with the general public, concerning these sudden closures of what I believed to be public owned lands. I understand the biosphere that is the NJ Pine Barrens, so I tread lightly and respectfully. I don't post here much but it does not mean I...

First off how do you know I have not done anything like asking hunters opinions of this topic. Why yes it would make it more difficult for anyone, not just a hunter, to make it anywhere with deep holes created by big tired vehicles creating deep ruts. Do I need to ask a hunter if that will...
