Are the NJ Pine barrens maps here going to be updated to include an ORV friendly overlay of some sort assuming they ever release the maps?

btw those maps awesome btw, whoever took the time to upload the historic satellite imagery as well as historic and current topos, you are awesome, between those and the rotatable birds eye view in the new Bing maps, it's pretty easy to find just about everything these days!

Probably not, unless someone who knows how to make the overlay can get in touch with me.

The historic topos and old aerial photography actually comes to you direct from the state. The NJ Office of GIS has made that data freely available for anybody to use.

I created the LIDAR maps from USGS NED (National Elevation Dataset) imagery. It is hosted on my own site and Ben made it directly accessible here at NJPB.

BTW Ben, I am working in the direction of setting up my own WMS server and offering several different maps there. This would make them easy to use in smartphone apps and also easy for you to add to NJPB maps. It will be awhile before I'm ready to put all the pieces together though.

I could probably figure out a way to convert a map of road closures to the needed format, but I don't think I want to have anything to do with this process. I saw how well that worked out for the "trail lovers" who tried to help.

Hey all, I implore everyone to remember that we are allies here and this is a dispute among friends. If we didn't have impassioned people like you all and the PPA with deep convictions, then we would have lost this place to suburbia. That fight against the wal-marts and the real-estate companies is not over and I really would like to keep this debate friendly because we need each other.

Perhaps that was the case 25 years ago when they started, but I strongly disagree the PPA is an ally. In fact, I would consider them a bigger threat then Walmart. The PPA and their radical view of a preserved Pinelands doesn't include me, or anyone really, unless you want pay the PPA to escort you into "their" preserve. While we may agree we don't want a Walmart or tract housing on Carranza rd our agreement seems to end there.

You have as much of a chance convincing me that closing off Locks Bridge is helping curb ORV abuse as you have of convincing Al that vehicles do little harm to the roads. Fight Walmart and developers is one thing and easy to get donations for that. It's much harder to get donations to lock people out of the woods and say it's for the best.

Sorry that should have posted under tee gate .. The Dep, also spoke to my state repersentitives, who stated that to close a public road it must first go through legislation and nothing has been brought to the table. They had no clue of this except there was a buzz on social media. But were going to investigate further.

So they went from "we will hold public stakeholder forums and the maps will come out at end of the summer" to "there will be no input accepted" and as soon as pressure mounted, they released the map early to quickly change the status quo before too much pressure was applied.

"Approved, designated motorized recreation routes are identified on this map,
but are not marked or identified on the ground. It is your responsibility to know
where you are and to remain on the designated motorized recreation routes.
Failure to stay on the designated motorized recreation routes will result in a
summons. Wharton State Forest and the State of New Jersey will pursue all
violators to the fullest extent of the law."

So since there is no reference MV violation by number, would it be safe to say you will get a DEP fine/ticket from the SPP? I can tell you I took one trail that was not marked to see where they marked it (if they did) and I never found one. It is on the map now. It is not a wetlands or anything. There are many areas on here that will affect many. Please call you Representatives and make noise! This cannot be shoved down our throats as is!

I doubt it will be a MV violation, probably one of the just one of the rules under Subchapter 3 in the state park service code, although Wharton is a state forest Maybe that's a defense
