Looks like a challenging adventure, worthy of the most intrepid PBX explorers.
I'll take the swamps, you keep the briers. What an initiation, Tom!
Love the videos. And Guy, you had the presence of mind, in the back of the truck, after a hike like that, to take photos? Not a fun ride, but...
Thank you. I bought a new compact for traveling--it's a Fuji Finepix f200 EXR, and I have been pleased with it.
But more important, I have an excellent teacher. He's taught me to take plenty of shots (more than 5G this trip), to crop, and to slice. Much more to learn!

It makes perfect sense. I'm fascinated that you're an olfactorist. No wonder you like to cook. It's a mixed blessing though, isn't it? Thank you for the kind words.

I agree, Jeff. It's a form of music, right? And the way we're wired, we have a different visceral response to drums or violins or French horns, for example. I was listening to what I thought was a tape of frog & bird songs when suddenly a coyote wailed in the background. The sound grabbed me by...
A beaver. I was standing on a dike in the bog admiring his lodge, just at dusk, and he swam by. I almost fell in. A moment later he disappeared, but his mate came by, saw me, and slapped his tail. First time I've ever heard that great thunking splash.

On my recent visit to the Pines, four members of this Forum patiently answered my questions, provided reference material, and took me to visit lovely and unique places. I am grateful for their kindness.
Here are a few of the scenes etched in my memory.
Batsto River
Mullica River...
This looks like an awesome place:
the hills swelling, sweeping, blooming, the plains flowing;
the rocks tilting, frowning, crowning, the wind singing.
A landscape to cherish, worthy of dreams.
Thank you, Whip, for sharing.

:guinness:
Right, after emptying one or two I'd sure be mumbling something like "uuurrrraaahh" and I'd probably knock the rest of them over--end of practice! But hey, thanks . . . Grendel . . . for your suggestion.

Thank you both, and for the link to the can. You've given me an interesting bit of history too.
Do you think a man could crush a beer can without much effort, as in this excerpt:
[He shrugged. “Went down it a good ways, along the river, sort of. Trees get thick and—don’t rush...
Question
What brand of beer does a somewhat macho female resident of the Pines drink? (Jeff, she lives up by Mt. Misery. :) )
She can afford an expensive brew, but it needs to be in a can.
Please describe color of can as well.

Mt. Misery vicinity--and Lebanon State Forest--is on my list, but I haven't been over there yet. Can't seem to get enough of the Wharton rivers and bogs! This is area has such wonderful variety . . . guess I'll have to come back. :)

On Saturday, Guy took me out to see the Cramer-Broome stones, and you've seen his report, but I thought you might like to get a closer look at "Monument Man" in action.
Down in the Martha/Harrisville area, 'twas a wild and stormy day.
which became even wilder.
First, a monument...
