    Coyotes today

My opinion - unless you're a small dog or a child, its very very unlikely. Coyotes have been present and prolific for a long time now and attacks on adults are all but nonexistent. That having been said - the coyote/wolf mix does hold some mystery behaviorally because the possibility exists...

    Coyotes today

I was also lucky enough to stumble across a group of young coyotes last week and again today . . . super awesome experience. I managed to photograph at least four, but I believe there were 5 young coyotes in the group. Most of the shots are like these - running away. Though their curiosity...

DEP to get authority to grant developers waivers....

“There’s no automatic waiver,” Martin said. “It will be applied on a case-by-case basis.” Yes. Only the cases that throw enough money at corrupt politicians will get a waiver. I was just thinking that NJ environmental policy needed a loophole big enough to drive a WALMART through.

    Window Watching Notes

Hmm . . . well I've never actually heard that. Here's what Cornell has to say:

Very cool! Nomatter the species, observing undisturbed animal behavior is always fascinating!

    Window Watching Notes

This year hasn't been a great duck year. Probably having something to do with less lake-freezing. I've noticed a general lack of them all winter this year . . . Also, while robins do migrate from up north (the ones with bright plumage are the northern ones), our resident robins never leave...

    Harassing bog turtles

So harassment of an endangered species = burying them alive? I certainly hope a natural disaster rolls through and harasses his farm soon. I kind of get your point, Guy . . . but it still doesn't quite make sense to me once the article is read (this thread had like 130 views when i started...

    Harassing bog turtles

not sure I understand the thinking behind these responses . . . this man's actions directly contributed to severe habitat degradation because he didn't want to pay what it costs to go through the proper channels. He knew the turtles were there and still went ahead and cut trees on a creek...

    Any serious birders here?

to be honest its probably been that long since a Gyr was seen in the area . . . last invasion was what . . . 2005?

    Any serious birders here?

I know I'm pretty annoyed about that . . . wanted to make a trip out for it tomorrow, but I'm not doing that without some good confirmation first. Already got the snowy, but sadly I can't go for the finch, as the homeowners don't want visitors on the weekend.

    A Study of....?

USDA has been doing some biomass studies in the area for a few years now . . . could be them. I also remember hearing something about a possible SPB infestation as well as some other pest that I don't quite recall (wasn't familiar with it, so i forgot . . . ), so it could be someone (anyone...

    Manchester re-zones for development

I was gonna make a comment about you being mean to the shoobies . . . then recalled that I've given similarly hilarious directions to bennies nearer my own beaches. It usually starts with "get on 195 west".

    Manchester re-zones for development

I see arrogance. And in that case - exactly as this one - it was inept surveying (signed off by the commission) that accounted for the "lack" of snakes. The "2" snakes involved in walmart were alone because the environmental consultants didn't do their jobs. When done half-assedly, "proof of...

    Manchester re-zones for development

This was just approved last night. Despite previous records from the area that indicate the T&E survey to determine absence was not comprehensive. http://manchester-nj.patch.com/articles/amid-resident-protest-planning-board-approves-master-plan-amendments

    More 2011 wildlife

thanks again. Oh and Al you're dead on with everything except the snowy. Its immature plumage. Blue-spots occupy a very limited range in North Jersey . . . anything else you find will be a jefferson hybrid. Oh and yeah that flooding shot is HDR shot, but the fact that you had to ask is...
