    The Shore's Future

I believe Sandy did that, we just filled them back in! I always find it amazing to look at the Virginia barrier islands - one of the few stretches on the Atlantic seaboard that have been, for the most part, let be - and see how the landscape changes over time.

    Delaware Bay Shore

Glad you enjoyed the area. Its one of the best. But FYI, Sandy had nothing to do with Seabreeze - the town was razed long before that storm came along. I was actually hoping Sandy would turn in into a chain of islands...

    bald eagles

I've become accustomed to seeing them in my paddles along the bayshore. We even get them here at the sewer plant. But I've never seen anything like the numbers at Conowingo. I was paddling there wednesday evening and was utterly stunned by the number of eagles. Its good to see!

Its those "state of the art" facilities from the 60's that always seem to come back and get ya!

    Bayside NJ

There were actually two "towns". If you noticed as you left the fast land and headed into the marsh the road forked. One goes to Caviar and one to Bayside. I think Caviar was on the left hand fork, but I could be wrong. Anyway, there used to be a guest house and boat rentals in Bayside up into...

    Restoring NJ's other ravaged shore

Ah, the cash register! Alas its probably gone. You could ring up all your Moores Beach souvenir purchases on it... I know I have some pictures of it somewhere. I plan on paddling down that way this weekend - have to keep an eye out for it!

    Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

Re the court battle, NJ lost. State boundary still the high water mark of a prescribed circle around New Castle. Thats why parts of Supawna that consist of river dredge may be in Delaware!

    Ipomopsis rubra threatened

I didn't realize I rubra was considered T&E in any way. It is a prolific plant, esp. further south, & seeds are readily available. Are you sure you are not confusing this with the vetch that was behind TNC's original acquisition of some of the land in that area?

    Riverview Beach Park

There used to be some of the old carts from one of the rides in front of a house on the Pole Tavern - Daretown Road. Edit: In fact, it was the old donkey ride pictured on yummgal's blog.

    Chasing turkey vultures

As a kid I used to lay in the field behind our house & try to play dead to attract them. Never seemed to work.

Burden Hill Preserve, A PBX Hike

That pond used to be in a friend's family - it was their summer getaway spot. I believe at one time they tried to grow cranberries there. The large cleared area was a largely illegal sand and clay pit, that ultimately was stopped when the guy dug up some swamp pinks.

Train Derails in S. Jersey (Paulsboro)

Don't confuse vinyl chloride with poly-vinyl chloride (which is that new car smell). Unlike VC, PVC is (relatively) harmless.

Train Derails in S. Jersey (Paulsboro)

Take the time to read the msds for vinyl chloride. You don't wanna be near it. All those folks pictured walking around with no scba apparatus should get some liver function tests stat.

    Menantico Ponds

Pineywoman - Ditto Rednek's comments on your Maskells Mill Pond write-up. Just something folks need to be aware of. I know I plan any paddling trips to those areas for Sundays during gunning season.
