    The low down on ticks?

While lyme disease is serious, I am more concerned with chiggers. Ticks are a nuisance but chiggers are pure hell. If you see what looks like dirt on you but it's moving, they're chiggers. Spray them and brush them off the best you can. Their bites can torment you for weeks. We are entering...

    "Thru-hiking" the Batona

Well I haven't but I hike with a guy who has done it in one day. That's right, one day. Of course it doesn't hurt that he is a marathon runner I guess. Most of the hiking I do is off trail. Steve

    Magellan Explorist 300..........

Just as long as you understand that none of the roads and trails in the Pines will not be displayed, and you're ok with that, then it sounds like it's the one for you. Steve

    Timbered roads? Spong?

Yes it was and there is one near Martha as well. I've never equated "corduroy" with log roads though. I though a log road was a "cedar road" and a "corduroy road" was a road that is ribbed due to erosion. But what do I know? Steve

    Magellan Explorist 300..........

I'm not familiar with that model but I use the Magellan Meridian and am very pleased with it. Does the explorist have expandable memory and can you load maps into it? My Maridian's base map was pretty lame and not much use in the Pines until I uploaded better map data into it. Steve
