DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Just to play devil's advocate: it could be the other way around - in other words, the numbers on the data slides could have been the ones swapped and the summary slide is the one that is correct. But I think that is less likely. Hopefully this was just an innocent mistake either way. I thought...

Did they address the resolutions passed by any of the townships?

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I've got a work function at 6 so I won't be able to stay on for a whole lot of this, but it looks like it's being recorded. I really made all of the comments I was going to make in the survey. Hopefully they make playback available.

Prescribed Burning Today - Wharton, other sites

Just received that email as well. I was wondering if there was some kind of prescribed burn yesterday. There was a good bit of smoke visible, maybe in the vicinity of Bear Swamp, but I couldn't figure out where exactly. There was also a brush fire in a field behind Medford Leas a couple of days...

    Finding an Old Book

Yes, you're right, "old" is quite relative. It's old to me, but in terms of books, 1971 is practically new. Currently the oldest book in my collection is from 1911 (Witmer Stone's The Plants of Southern New Jersey - the original, not a reprint). And even that is, relatively speaking, not all...

    Winter weather forecast

I have not seen that particular doc but I have seen almost all of this guy's videos, documenting life as a logistics team member at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and at McMurdo. He has overwintered on the South Pole base several times, when there is 24 hour darkness, gale force winds...

    Winter weather forecast

Surprised no chat about it here; going to get some very cold temps this evening. Similar to that Arctic blast around Christmas Eve. Air temp around 8, wind chill -8.

    Finding an Old Book

I just read through some old threads from about that time on here, that's very nice. It's a shame that some of the older front-page articles are no longer accessible and a lot of old images are gone. I would have loved to have met Henry Beck's daughter. That George Vail obituary is pretty...

    Finding an Old Book

This is still not Sign Posts, but I have also now added the complete Martha Furnace diary to the collection, with Bisbee's signature. This was a rare find.

I'll Never Tire Of This Spot

Gorgeous shots, thank you for sharing. I remember that storm well. It lifted heavy metal furniture off the deck and smashed it into the sliding glass doors. We were without power for a few days as well. I still have a picture of the power outage map. Here's a gigantic old tree it uprooted in...

Looking For A Vehicle And Exploring In Lebanon

You could use some tough leather gloves or something when walking through thick brush. The briars will really cut you up good.

    Sonic Booms

https://www.nj.com/news/2023/01/mystery-shaking-rumbling-felt-along-jersey-shore-again-no-earthquakes-reported.html Did you hear/feel it? There were a couple of deep booms a few seconds apart here around 11AM yesterday. It shook the house a little bit. This is pretty far inland.

    Jackson State Forest

Weirdly, it's Mississippi-shaped. And the capital of Mississippi is...Jackson. Odd coincidence.

    Military Fox Hole

Looking at some great past threads on geology on here, but a lot of old images are missing. It'd be great if Spung-Man weighed in on this one. I've seen ironstone/sandstone plenty of times but the silvery gray color is unusual.
