Searching For Rare Plants In The Great Swamp

Great pics! Especially like the Gentian. Blue flowers always look great. Being a former surveyor now studying to be an accountant, the blaze marks and signs look as good as an old fence line. You should consider a book of your Pines photos Guy.

    Is this fast food?

I used to eat a 1lb burger occasionally at Devones and believe me, after after struggling through the last few bites, I could barely squeeze in 3 or 4 more beers. By the way, greetings from STILL FRICKIN HOT Florida. I envy youse and your upcoming changes in the weather.

Have ticks always been a problem?

Hey Star, Made it to Venice and took my first extended walk 2 days ago around the airport and along the waterway. I left at 11am and let me tell you, it was blazing hot. Didn't see much except some woods I wasn't about to set foot in with shorts on. I did see some gopher tortoises though...

    Martha Furnace; advice requested

I had a CB in my car that was great for long highway drives. If you got in with the right group of truckers, you could make great time AND have fun just shooting the breeze and dodging cops. I was a hick "four wheeler".:siren:

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Swamp cabbage? Is that something I have to go hunting for or can I find it in my grocers freezer? Do you have a lisp from the forked tongue? :-)

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Sheesh Star, did these bites happen close to home or out in the woods? Glad you had no lasting effects.

Have ticks always been a problem?

Ticks for Vengeance Can I be charged with a crime for putting a tick or several on a former bosses office chair? He was a tyrant and I must admit no pangs of guilt for doing this. No Scott, it wasn't Mike G. that recieved this treatment. He was my favorite to work for. :argh:

Sorry Ben. That's exactly why I didn't mention the town.

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

I agree it's a shame they just had to build those McMansions. Another bite out of an endangered (locally) species habitat. Of course, with those houses right there that just leads to the homeowners killing snakes to "protect" their property. A vicious cycle that the snakes cannot escape.

    Coyote puppies

Jeff, did you get to hear them yipping and yelping as a group? You will definitely know the difference when you hear it.

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

A friend of mine told me that a few years back, maybe five, he did work on a construction site that was shut down due to "pygme rattlesnakes". I won't mention the town where this happened but I'm curious if anyone here has ever seen one of these very rare snakes? Any pics if you have?

Have ticks always been a problem?

Sorry Star, I somehow missed your post. I'm not looking forward to dealing with bugs all year round but I figure my odds of getting bitten are half of what most peoples are. Hopefully, if I'm surprised by a venomous snake, it will take it's warning strike at my bolt on leg. Should be...
