How would it be able to differentiate between pine beetles and one of another species?

How species-specific is this sensor? Not really clear on how it works or what it is. What does it look like, and how do you set one up? Is this an expensive piece of equipment?

By "delaminated", I mean the outer horny claw is removed, leaving just the bone. This graphic of a cat's claw illustrates what I mean. Maxwell's find would be the bony part of the "amputated distal phalanx".
