    Island Beach

I agree with idealism vs realism. If there was vast amount of lands where animals could roam free of human interactions then I am a hands off type. Reality is humans constantly disrupt the environment and sometimes its necessary to perform studies and research for long term solutions. When I...

    Rattlesnake

Its really late for her not to be with neonates. I witnessed this a few years back where the female was still milling around appearing gravid nearly into october. I dont fully understand what is occurring, perhaps there was complications and she is waiting to feed before departing for her den...

    Fire in Wharton?

Al, Ive always wondered how box turtles fare during fires. I dont think they have any ability to avoid it unless they get in a tree stump or dig into wet mud. Have you seen alot dead in burned areas? Dozens?

    Fire in Wharton?

I was just out there and you can see the smoke well from lee brothers bogs on 563 and at friendship. There was a small rain storm out there an hour ago and the wind is blowing the smoke out towards 563/679 intersection. It isnt that smokey out there tho but it appears smokey higher up in the...

Possible Government Shut-down may affect your weekend..

To see cones in front of caranza memorial and cops sitting outside of pilgrim lake is a complete joke. Politicans should be completely embareassed for pulling this stunt on a holiday weekend. This makes me not even want to live in this state anymore.

    Rattlesnake

That snake will heal up with sufficient basking. When the weather is cool and wet like it has been snakes will show more blisters and sores. They are hibernation sores since timbers den in some wet areas. Seeing lots of kingsnakes with similar issues since they also den in wer areas. The...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

I thought when this thread initially went up that it was Jim Rutherford, however the TLA was throwing me off. Like Bob said the pictures didn't necessarily look like him. I didn't know Jim personally but knew people who did. He loved turtles, particularly spotted turtles and from what I know...

    Spring Has Sprung

Fairly suprising a kingsnake would be up today. Not rare for snakes to come in and out of hibernation but today wasn't overly warm and kingsnakes aren't usually one to come up so quick. Pretty interesting.

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

Again I actually like the look once healed. I can't really think of a ton of examples where they opened up along roads but some slight examples come to mind whether natural or by man. There is sections in parker which if you have vehicle access look quite nice with vegetation about 20 yards on...

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

Whether it is fire or it is some selective cutting or other attempts to open up areas I'm all for it. I've seen often firsthand where animals instantly move into an area that is opened up. The sense I get is they are begging for more open areas. I don't particularly think much of the pine...

Washington Tpke 745 acre thinning bid

I think the clearing looks great. As the vegatation bounces back it will provide a nice look and is great for fauna. The choked barrens stinks for anything but the pine trees within it, doesnt support a whole lot else.
