    Tick sighting

Actually it's been colder than normal, at least up here, since Mid-November. We've already had quite a few days that didn't get above freezing. It has gotten warmer this week, tomorrow will be a toasty 57 (yuck). Hopefully it will get cold again, winter has just started. The very warm October...

    Tick sighting

It has been colder here, no ticks, but they could be coming back out with a week of milder weather in the 40s. That's why I like it as cold as possible.

    Ice

Thanks! Hopefully that will help be getting up trails like this!

    Ice

I guess you guys got mostly rain down there. We had a sleet/freezing rain on Thursday, it was mostly sleet, about 1-2 inches, but then it changed to rain near the end which froze on top of the sleet. If I "step heavy" it will crunch, which keeps me from slipping. I wonder if anyone here has used...

    Ice

Did you guys in Nj get hit by ice like we did? The trails and dirt roads are very, very slippery. Do you think "cramp ons" would be an overkill? It is not fun walking on it. A foot of snow is better than an inch of ice. Anyway, I just hope everyone is careful out there, it is very slippery!

Not the blue hole, but something like it

What did you experience? Do you think it was the JD?

How the heck did these get here?

Yup, that's actually the main cause of all these bugs that get up here. Shipments need to be checked before they leave their area of origin to make sure there are no "stow-aways". Here in the New York area we have been hit with the Asian Longhorn beetle, fortunately, they have avoided the pines...

    First snow!

Not much snow here, just a dusting. Enjoy the cold air though, I hear 50s are going to be returning next week.

How the heck did these get here?

Don't forget illegal immigration! They bring up all these bugs from the south, and then due to warmer temps, they can colonize here.

    Best thing I saw today...

Actually the photo was cropped. It's not like I was following her, she was waiting for a cab and when my bus came I got on and that was it. A creep would have stuck around and missed his bus! I aint missing my bus for a girl, or missing a trip into the pine barrens for a girl, unless of course...

    Best thing I saw today...

I never take pictures of women, actually this was the first photo I have taken of "people on the street". I'd rather take pictures of trees of course, but there arent many trees in merrick.

    Best thing I saw today...

Yeah the air quality in Manhattan is better. Prob because there is so much more traffic here! Is there a similar occurance in southern NJ I wonder, esp with the NJ Turnpike and a west wind.

    Best thing I saw today...

Yes I did, I was in the Merrick area where I visited what was once a 150ft high landfill, turned into a park. My pics didnt come out that good, we had alot of brown haze and contrails. So the girl was the best photo of the day. The 2 other photos I took, notice the smog, it's getting like LA...

Welcome to the fall color show: Part 2 southern Westchester

White Plains area, believe it or not head just a mile or two out of the City of White Plains and you might as well be well upstate. Saxon Woods: They even have deer here! Silver Lake, just one mile northeast of White Plains. Trail around the lake.

Welcome to the fall color show! Part 1 - Rockefeller State Park

The leaves changed late this year due to having one of the warmest Octobers on record. It seems the summers are long and the winters are short. I believe it is another sign of global warming. They say polar sea ice forms a month later and breaks up a month sooner than 100 years ago. This has an...
