The Jersey Devil in Vice Magazine

Vice Magazine is a New York based free magazine. I don't know really what it's all about except that it's sort of like stabbing your brain with a fork to read. Anyway, they published an article on the Jersey Devil this month, and asked to use one of my photos for the article, which they...

    Exploring Mary Ann Forge

Today Tom Gagliardi and I went out to explore Mary Ann Forge. While waiting for Tom at the intersection of Rt. 70 and Mount Misery Road, a group of guys in pickup trucks and SUV's pulled up and told me my Jeep wasn't muddy enough, and offered to let me tag along as they went four wheeling...

Slightly Chiggered and Lost without my GPS

Today Laura and I decided to visit Greenwood WMA. We stopped at Old Half Way and went to the small lake. It's nearly dry and the erosion didn't look any worse than it had when I last visited two or three years ago. We tried to find the second, larger lake but I think we ended up walking down...

    Clearing the FRMs?

Last night Laura and I took a quick drive through the Forked River Mountains. It ended up being too dark for me to find the road up to the top of the mountain, but the road that leads past the mountain, and ultimately past the Ironside Gun Club had evidence of trees and brush cut down on either...

Pine Barrens Sights at New York Penn Station

For those who likely don't know, I now work in Manhattan. Before getting on the train to start my hellish 2 1/2 hour commute back home, I noticed a display set up in the waiting area for tracks 1-10 for NJ Transit. It's a mechanical display that has scenes from various NJ sites and attractions...

    Toad Identification

Can someone identify this toad? Is it a Fowlers Toad, or an American Bullfrog? We rescued him in the spring when I accidentally ran him over with the lawn mower. That's why he only has one eye. :( His name, aptly enough, is "Mower". He's also probably the coolest animal I've ever owned.

    The Pines are Dry!

Today, inspired by the recent Calico thread, Tom G. and I set off to explore the area. Before Tom showed up I explored around Martha. It looks like a tree recently got hit by lightning: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=323&pos=7...

    Monmouth Battlefield on Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, we decided to have a picnic with a few friends at Monmouth Battlefield in Freehold. There wasn't too much to see, but I did get some nice photos of the park if anybody is interested. http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=320 There was a cellar hole...

Guided Tour of Allaire State Park - Jul 30, 2005

Our last guided tour get-together (Harrisville) was an absolute success, so we're having another one, this time at Allaire State Park on Saturday, July 30. Ever wanted to see a real blast furnace stack? Or see what a bog iron village really looks like? (Sorry, Batsto, if only you still had...

    Harris Station - a Theory

Ok, so there had been some discussion on the site regarding Harris Station and I had always said "I've been there - there is nothing there." Well tonight I got to thinking about Harris Station and I think I discovered something interesting. First off, I got my names mixed up. I was not at...

Most Remote Area in the Pines

I've been doing a lot of thinking and wanted to start a thread to see what other people thought. What do you think is the most remote area in the Pines? A big part of me wants to say the Forked River Mountains area, but they're so damn close to big towns, and a LOT of people go there. Maybe...
