This sort of thing happens all the time in Monmouth & Ocean counties and probably else where. Stolen autos dumped in the woods and then set on fire. I've been to many brush fires recently started by stolen cars.

Another fire today 10/17/08 in Pemberton Twp just south of Country Lake Estates near the railroad bed. Last I heard was 5-10 acres. No rain in the forecast till maybe middle of next week.

There is large forests of pine in Old Bridge. I am familure with the area. Its refered as the Runyon Watershed. I believe some of it is owned by the Perth Amboy water authority. And as some one said above, there are areas of pine forest that extend up into Monroe, East Brunswick, spotswood...

Still burning strong today. A huge column is coming up right now at 2 pm (Sept 1). The Greystone fire tower in Morris County can see it.

Latest update is 106 acres @ 60% containment as of 08/27/08. Mainly timber. Minimal surface fire with extensive areas of ground fire. Smoke will continue to be dense in the area. Expecting to be 100% contained on 08/28/08. Probably won't be declared out until the next big rainfall.
