    What is this building?

Not wanting to start another thread on the Pioneer Gun Club, I will simply add to this one. For the past two weekends, I have been searching for Gentians in the general area of the gun club and have come up empty handed. Like everyone else, I am short on time but have great expectations. None...

The Atsion Mansion, Then & Now

That is a great photo and I agree with Boyd's statement that the decaying mansion is more appealing than its current form. Interesting to see the two smaller wood structures too. Wishful, I also took a close look at the background hoping to see a glimpse of the mill through the trees.

    Here comes the hot weather

I just want the high humidity to go away! I am tired of being soaked. At lunch today, I was even sweating profusely from eating. Next week is promising.

    Pine Island Cranberry Co.

I captured this storm last year over Haines' bogs. The gust front and a roll cloud can be seen in the right side of the photograph. It was a very short but violent storm. This was in July, but isn't the microburst that caused the heavy damage.

A solitary camper braved Batona camp last night.

Very good. The county may be going the microbial route which is safe. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14765663

A solitary camper braved Batona camp last night.

I remember the mosquito trucks driving up and down the streets here in Hamilton and the train of kids on bikes riding through the fog. I was too small to be with the older kids and missed out on the festival. I just watched from the tree we had in the yard. Growing up in the seventies was such a...

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks, Oji. As I read more and more, I am beginning to question if any of the very rare orchids still exist and if finding them is a combination of chance and good fortune. The books I am reading, even though they are updated and relevant, still contain locations from at least ten years ago if...

    Botanists Dream

Hawk eyed! I have made several of my own discoveries looking out the window and at the side of the road. Did I just see what I thought I did?! I found several orchids and snakes after breaking hard and backing up a road.;)

My first Orchid of the season

Oji, I am starting to scout out locations new to me, in order to broaden areas that I am familiar with, so that next year I have better chance to discover more orchids. With that being said, what is your opinion of finding Cleistes divaricata (Rosebud orchid), in the small savannahs east of 206...

A solitary camper braved Batona camp last night.

Looks like another band is moving across the Chatsworth area. Boyd are you in the line of the coming storms or are you still considered the Sahara of South Jersey? With a little over a half inch of rainfall, I am sure you are still at a deficit...

BRIDGES AND FLIES AND FRIES OH MY

Seven Bridges might be worse at night. If there is even a hint of light, you are surrounded by a mixed swarm of biting insects. Those nasty flies don't sleep! I don't know which is more annoying in the dark, hearing the buzz around you or having them fly into your face.

    Could Use Some Help

I can understand how someone who isn't familiar with the Pines can be confused by what they see. If you have ever seen a deer run full speed through briers and under growth so thick that passage by a person would be impossible, you would understand too. Only a winged devil could do such a feat...

    Tylertown To The Tulpehocken

Early today, after checking another location Teegate gave me a tip on, I returned to the Tulpe. After a long slow search, I found another group of Gentians. These are almost ready to bloom. The dry weather might be effecting their rate of growth because the plants appear much smaller this year...

    Rarities

Oji, are the two Gentian pictures from this season?! I wish had more time to be out trekking around. I might have to hit Parker Preserve or Dover Forge in the morning to see if I can discover a flower or two that is opened. The pink Gentian is beautiful but the blue and white coloration Turtle...

    Friday Evening Ore Explore

Thanks for the terrific photos! I especially like the Asphodel in seed. It really does have the appearance of a bog candle. I noticed that the shadows are growing longer in everyone's photographs. Seasons are slowly changing.

    Tylertown To The Tulpehocken

I managed to get up several hours before work this morning, I had a touch of insomnia, and revisit several spots along the Tulpe to check to see if any of the rare Gentians were emerging. It was difficult searching in the dawn with a flashlight and being careful not to step on any thing...

    Rails At Double Trouble

Oji, does the tractor run? I enjoy looking at old equipment and seeing its simple construction. I can see a laborer sitting in the hard seat just put-putting along. Very utilitarian! There was, at one time, a large stack of rail at Double Trouble sitting next to the first building to the...

NJ has one of the lowest obesity rates

I just got in from having dinner at the local fifties style diner. I definitely feel like like 34% WHO indicates is obese. The chopped steak sandwich, homemade fries , real cherry coke and vanilla malt was worth it. My attitude at the moment is let the coroner earn the money and figure out the...

NJ has one of the lowest obesity rates

I wonder how accurate the chart is because muscle is more dense than fat or it doesn't matter? Does body structure and muscle density factor in? I'm six foot one and way one hundred and ninety pounds. My BMI is 25.1, which is overweight, but I'm thin as a rail with no belly. Hmmm...
