    The Perseids cometh

It was cloudy for most of the time early this morning. It also started to rain around 1:30 AM, but for fifteen minutes there was an open area of sky. I managed a rushed photograph of the Milky Way over Warren Grove, but didn't capture the four meteors that we managed to see through the thinner...

Changes IN NJ State Park Regs

This specific revision is a ticking time bomb. Every enduro club and rider forum has been exploding about this regulation since it was a rumor. This one change in wording has the potential to cause more than keeping riders out of the woods. Businesses, clubs, life styles and revenue will suffer...

    Plant ID help

I took Oji's advice to Manumuskin, about photographing three plants and identifying each, to become acquainted with the species growing in the Pinelands. Two of the the random photos today, were difficult, but not impossible to identify with the help of Hough's book New Jersey Wild Plants and...

Changes IN NJ State Park Regs

You are correct. The additions are in bold face, as is the corrected spelling, but the rule already exists - 7.2-2.22 Restricted Recreation Activities. It is also worded as "a person" and again as "an individual and groups". PBXs are outlaws!;) I read the entire list and I have or will break...

Changes IN NJ State Park Regs

The most of the revisions seem to be a refinement of the wording and the change in fees. The only read two new rules 7.2-17-8 and 19-9. The two clarify applicable resident fees and exemptions from fees. The changes don't seem terrible at all. I don't see any negative impact. We get to keep doing...

Ocean Quahog and Surf Clam Shells

The shells come from local clam companies, from what I have read. No specific company names are given.

Ocean Quahog and Surf Clam Shells

Lately, I have been in areas of the Barrens, that see little, if any foot traffic, and visited a secluded rye field. Much to me surprise, when I came to the end of the entrance road, I was greeted my a large pile of quahog and surf clam shells. It was several hundred feet long and at least...

Tree Cutting on Quaker Bridge Rd.

Teegate, this thread reminded me of our discussion after we hiked to go see the Arethusa. I mentioned to you several cellar holes and the sand.

1Jerseydevil, try Rick's Saddle Shop up from the golf course on Rt. 539. I work with pesticides everyday for a living. Permethrin is nothing to fear. It is a very common chemical used in a wide range of products for use by humans. I have a bigger fear of Round-up. Most of the Permethrin...

    Name that Ruin

They appear to be fancy and substantial, for a Pine's structure, instead of simpler construction, such as wood boards.

My first Orchid of the season

Oji, I thought you might find this photograph to be of some interest. Notice the difference in size between the tresses. The plant centered is almost twenty-four inches tall, while the plant to the lower left of it is close to six inches tall. As you know, both fall into the normal height range...

    The Perseids cometh

We are thinking alike! I found a nice bowl a short ways off of Range Road that I can drive into and hopefully not be seen by anyone. Headlights and flashlights can stay way. 46er's tips for the darker areas were spot on. I just had to find one than I liked.

My first Orchid of the season

Last night while looking for a spot to photograph the night sky, I came across several rye fields that I haven't been in before. Today, I returned to visit two and found a group of Ladies'-tresses that looked much different that what I have been seeing in the area. These smaller orchids have...

    The Perseids cometh

Thanks again! To be honest, I'll drive almost any where and any time if it is worth the effort. Anything north of Route 30 is easy for me. South of 30, I have to start to plan things a little more.
