    The Perseids cometh

If it is clear and not hazy, the East Plains seemed to be the best location. The only light source was the lamp marking the gate to the bombing range and the marker for the radio tower. I found a treeless spot that I can get to that hides the two rather well that I can drive into and use my...

Teegate, the bracket you found is called a Bell-type tandem transposition bracket. It mounts on an arm. http://www.the-electric-orphanage.org/insulators-hardware-other-items-of-interest/

    The Perseids cometh

Every time I head out, I have a minimum of an hour and a half of driving to get to and from the Barrens. Don't ever take for granted being a foot step away, that must be awesome to always be "there".

46er, S. Bay is S. Bay Avenue which is Beach Haven. Thanks for the tips. Looks like tonight is a good night to go check out some spots.

It almost looks like the bracket should attach to the side of building instead of post. Thanks, Ecampbell for your photograph. It saved me from searching my unlabeled CDs.

    The Perseids cometh

Manu, that is a haul for me! Thanks, but I live so far away from there. I have hunted for areas to shoot night skies and found the end of Great Bay to be halfway descent. Atlantic City and the Coast Guard building cast most of the light pollution. Sussex county is a great area , but it is a day...

    Pieces Of Hampton Park History

Teegate, that is a cool item to find. I need to go through my pictures from when I hiked several old railroads up in north Jersey ( Sussex, Warren and the Cut-off). There are still intact telephone poles with wires, insulators and such along those lines, and I have many photographs of them. I...

    The Perseids cometh

46er, what area do you think has less light pollution for night shots - the end of Seven Bridges or the end of S. Bay?

Chiggers are out in full force already...

1Jerseydevil, if you are daring enough for "homemade", check your local livestock feed houses or saddle shop for Hi-yield or Durvet 10% Permethrin. If I remember correctly on quart makes twenty five gallons of spray, so diluting either product even more, one quart will probably last you forever...

My first Orchid of the season

The field I was in this afternoon was like an oven, but I managed to find several interesting plants. Thanks to a tip from Oji, I also explored a new area to me and finally saw Crane-fly orchids in person. Over a mile away from other Northern Slender Ladies'-tresses (Spiranthes lacera var...

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

I have no idea what it could be used for. I know it took a bit of effort to get the trampoline back there. It is heavy when broken down in pieces, over a hundred pounds.

I found this tonight. Dopey Kids! The photograph is blurry because it was a long, handheld exposure.

My first Orchid of the season

Oji, so you couldn't find any of them? Ah, that stinks.:( They are along the tree line and along the grass line across from where you parked, no more than a foot in. I didn't find any in the heavy cover ( the middle).

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks, Teegate, I answered my own question to its ID, using Paul Brown's book. You don't like mushrooms on your pizza?:D Now that I have seen it, the Rattlesnake Plantain's leaves are one of my favorites. The silvery vein markings are very pretty. My photo was taken in a thunder storm and...

My first Orchid of the season

I also found this in an area of old bricks, Downy Rattlesnake Plantain (Goodyera pubescens). I don't know if they will bloom this year. The Pinelands Commission PDF for orchids, shows the blooming period from the middle of July through early August, but I didn't see any spikes.

My first Orchid of the season

Today, I found more Slender Ladies Tresses in Greenwood. They are growing like weeds. I am going to visit Manahawkin for a change of scenery and to see if I can find a few Crane-fly orchids. I remember seeing an area that had bicolor basals when I was looking for Twayblade. (Bobpbx mentioned...

Teegate, you have driven past this spot many times. I was surprised to find it where I did. It is hard to see from the road unless you know where to look. I deleted my track by mistake but I'll plan on returning sometime this week and will PM you when I do with the coordinates.
