    Pieces Of Hampton Park History

On my way home this evening from exploring the Skit Branch, I was walking back to my truck from Hampton Park to Carranza Road via Hampton Road. I was tired and day dreaming, thinking about the history of the area and tripped over a wire in the woods. Teegate had mentioned, in one of his posts...

My first Orchid of the season

Teegate, is it just an optical illusion or is that plant incredibly tall in your photo? Two feet?

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks Oji! I was having difficulty because I didn't see the prominent spiral in the blooms of the tresses. There were seven or eight Northern Slender Ladies' Tresses in one spot and they were almost impossible to see because the orchids were growing in grasses two to three feet tall. I was...

Here's a good laugh for ya....

This is his response to me asking if he knew it was illegal to remove, possess, or sell any artifact removed from a New Jersey state forest. I also included the link above. "Darn... nope.. didnt know that. Just found this neat rock and decided to take it home. Thanks for letting me know...

My first Orchid of the season

Yet another great Saturday! I was soaked from the humidity, soaked by the two storms and up to my elbows in grass that made me itch. It was a blast! I need help with IDing this pair. I found these in two different spots in Greenwood, both hot and dry sandy locations. I know they are Spiranthes...

    Capewell Glass Negative Collection

The weird structure appears to me, to be a crudely built spring house.

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

Oji, that was why I stopped. I didn't get a chance to search around because a group of people showed up.

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

Wow! Thanks Teegate and Boyd for the pictures. It is nice to see the place without litter. What a difference a few years makes, Boyd! I filled a contractor's garbage bag when I was there. I only had one stashed in my truck, but I could have filled three or four. It is sad.

    Recent Vandalism at Brooksbrae

Two weeks ago, there were signs of someone doing metal detecting along the back and side of the ruins. There are at least fifteen spots where someone was digging. Some holes unearthed large pieces of iron that couldn't be removed, so what was buried was left exposed.

    Music for the day

Ah, the good ol' days before the internet when tape trading was the craze. I have this recorded on cassette buried in a box somewhere with many other obscure Dead shows. At one time trading tapes was the thing to do and if it was recorded off the soundboard it was considered "gold".

My first Orchid of the season

Thanks Oji. I will do further reading on P. x canbyi. The reason I asked was because the one location I found both orchids are isolated by water and a road. It is only a few square yards in size. Knowing now that it is possible for them to hybridize, this could be a location to watch in the...

My first Orchid of the season

Today was one of those days that I didn't want to end. Thirteen hours in the pines! The weather was perfect and not one fly was a bother. I tracked all over Wharton and Penn, finally finding yellow orchids in two different areas. All in all, a great day. Crested yellow orchid (P. cristata)...

    Here comes the hot weather

Good point, but I don't think it can get hotter or more humid than it was today. Can it?:( Hopefully not. It isn't fun when the weather is like it was this afternoon. The change is drastic now that it is raining.

    Here comes the hot weather

It is a scorcher today. The ambient air temperature, from the temp sensor on the machine I use at work, registered 115 degrees in a pasture by New Egypt around 2:15 PM. When the humidity is factored in, it is just awful. Hopefully, the weather will take a turn for the better this evening...

    Another 5AM outing

Oji, thanks for the reminder for Al and myself. As simple as it sounds, I need a reminder every now and then to think of the location, location, and location. Bobpbx reminded me once before... Pine Barrens.
