Traveler's Forecast for the Pine Barrens

The Park Service needs to get a Caterpillar D8E out and grade some roads. A little trail maintenance is needed because some of the puddles need to be named and placed on a topo map. The fan on my truck was acting like it was a propeller, a few times.

How 3-D laser scanning preserves world's most treasured sites

That technology is amazing! I want to see that imagery combined with 3D satellite imagery. It would be the ultimate in geography, both physical and human.

    4 Day's Of Exploring

Manumuskin, I was suprised that they are invasive. I always thought most common reeds where native. I can't tell the difference between the two. They where fun to play in and always a good source for making whistles.

    ringed necked pheasant

Woodjin, I saw a black coyote off of Rt 539 by Webbs Mills. There is a road on your right as soon as you pass the Mill branch heading south. I saw it along that road. Someone dumped two garbage bags of torpedo rolls. One pile was right along Rt 539 and the second pile was farther in the woods...

    Jersey Christmas tree farms

As much as I like fresh cut Christmas trees, my favorite still is our sixties Evergleam pom-pom aluminum tree. It is an eight footer and has all of it's one hundred and twenty-four "branches". The spinner doesn't work but that is expected for a forty-seven year old tree base. We found it at a...

A Question for the Duck Hunters

I actually have five days off for the holiday and wanted to get a day or two in duck hunting. It is just a bummer that the birds aren't cooperating here. A few friends are heading to Parker Cove tomorrow morning. I just checked the weather, 65 degrees is the forecast for Saturday. It might be a...

A Question for the Duck Hunters

46er are you along the coast? This year is the first time that the numbers are low.

A Question for the Duck Hunters

Crosswicks Creek (Hamilton Swamp) is almost my backyard. I don't know why I am alarmed at what I have been seeing, this year has been odd as far as weather and seasonal temperatures. The waterfowl will more than likely show all at once, as soon as it gets cold farther north.

A Question for the Duck Hunters

Are you seeing any ducks? The Delaware River and it's backwaters from Lambertville to Roebling have few birds. Areas that have had big numbers in the past few years, have a handful if any. Is the lack of birds a trend for this area or are the numbers low along the coast and south Jersey? Could...

Paying $120 For a Local Turkey

Free-range fowl have unsurpassed flavor. Most of us are so used to birds that are fed production feed and hormones for fast growth and weight gain, that we wouldn't even recognize the taste of a free-range bird. Well worth the price. If anyone gets the chance, try a cut a beef from an animal...

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Gluttony is the word of the day. I couldn't control myself around the sweets. The candy yams had marshmallows and the pumpkin pie was ala mode. I had to loosen my belt and undo the button on my pants. I hope all had a great day!:)

    Rally Race ????

Trailhead, almost three years this coming December, we driving down Hampton Road heading towards Carranza. As you pass Stokes Road, on your right is an opening and that is were the Park Police was sitting. As I went by, he pulled out behind me and pulled up so close to me I couldn't see the top...

    Rally Race ????

What was the speed trap? I fell for the old tailgating routine a few years ago and the traffic stop was a nightmare. I didn't get a ticket after a heated exchange, but my truck was searched. I was furious.

    New Ford Bronco

It can be hard to except a car that has a modern design. It is future shock. The new Nissan Juke is a good example. It is considered ugly by American tastes but popular in other countries. The Hyundai Velocitor is making a impact with the younger buyers, so possibly tastes are changing. We will...

    New Ford Bronco

The first truck is located in Chile, so do be alarmed by the prices. The exchange rate of the peso to the dollar is $535 to $1, so the prices don't seem to bad for a diesel. If only small diesel trucks were more popular in the US. Ford makes a diesel Ranger but only for export. I want one.;)
