The Woods of Cave Cabin and Long Branch

Greetings! The PBX crew performed one of our explorations yesterday. The trip was designed by Guy and was conducted deep in the woods near the Forked River Mountains. This land is a mixture of high uplands interspersed with the ravines of several headwaters of the Forked River and...

    Snake ID please.

Friend found this yesterday. I've narrowed it to a young rat or a northern water snake. Am I far off?

From the North Side of LBI

I suscribe to the "Readings from the North Side"...Beach, Ocean & Surf Reports from North Beach, Long Beach Island". Being in a state that has both the pines and the shore is a gas. Since I live 8 miles inland, it's nice to see some daily reports on bird life, surfers, weather conditions etc...

Girl Scout Camp in Berkeley Township?

Some of you east of the parkway in Berkeley Township probably know about the Ore Pond canoe access on Cedar Creek. Have any of you ever heard of a Girl Scout Camp at that location?

    Dennisville

This question is for Manumuskin, but I want to open it to all in case someone else knows. I am intrigued with Dennisville. It seems like such a wonderful, laid back town in Down Jersey. The history is all about ship captains and cedar harvesting. I've been checking real estate for rent and...

    Weather for today

Cloudy, except when it's not. Chance of showers in the morning, at noon, then again at mid-afternoon. Definitely a shower at dinner time, then a freaking deluge at 8 PM that will wash away your kids, the car, and the southwestern section of your precious home. :D

    HMS Bounty

Something interesting you may not know. When the 1935 film Mutiny on the Bounty was made, sailing vessels were still in wide use: existing vessels were adapted to play Bounty and Pandora. For the 1962 film, a new Bounty was constructed in Nova Scotia. For much of 1962 to 2012, she was owned...

    Rubsam and Horrmann Brewing

I found bottle parts in the pines by Bamber with the subject maker's name molded on the glass. A little research discovered this sad news. :( http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F1071FFA3E5911738DDDA90994DA405B808CF1D3

Annual Forked River Mountain Cleanup--Sunday, 21 April

It certainly is that time of year again. About 19 years (+-) and still going on. Thankfully, the woods are a hell of a lot cleaner that they were back then. Anyway, both Chris (Hewey) and I will be leading separate teams this year if any of you want to help us. If you desire to get out of the...

    Forgotten Towns

Somewhere along the way I had lost my old paperback...Forgotten Towns. So I says to myself; how much is a hardcover? I found a first edition on AbeBooks for $10.48 and signed by the author. Strange how there is a page in the flyleaf shorter than the others where he signed it. Is this his...

    Overkill for the Pines
