    John McPhee: Three Word Review

I'm now reading "The autobiography of Vincent Van Gogh". Typical of me--I found it somewhere, where I forget. One of those old books...nondescript cover due to years of being passed around...maybe a library copy.

New regulations are unfair to enduro riders

That is the only thing that bothered me about the article (or article response if you will). There should have been a background opening, i.e., "the PPA is promoting state regulations that will limit our ability to conduct motorcycle enduro events. The rules will restrict, require...etc."

Have any of you seen them fly yet? They look ready, and the nest is too small for them all now.

New regulations are unfair to enduro riders

That is an interesting analysis; 20 enduro miles equals 4.8 acres of disturbed forest. He is essentially correct. And, the effects are gone after a few years of growth and weather. I think Enduros are okay, I'd only become personally annoyed if there were more than several each year and if they...

    NY, New England Vacation Ideas?

That is really nice Ben. First time I've seen that site. Very intriguing. I'd do it to get off the grid for a few days. Regarding Thoreau, I read this book a few months ago. It was a really good read. Henry started a 300 acre forest fire when he was young...

    NY, New England Vacation Ideas?

I second Lake Placid Ben, because they do have motels/hotels and a great bar on the lake with good brew. And I stayed a couple times in Jay myself, at this little place along the Ausable River. Very scenic. You can drive up Whiteface Mountain to the ski lodge. Well worth the trip. You can even...

Favorite place in the Pine Barrens

There is a certain selection of wonderful cedar bogs in the northern Pine Barrens up here in Ocean County that are my cup of tea. All of them have a clear stream running through at a fast enough clip to keep the water clean, cold, and refreshing. This year, in particular, the sphagnum moss is...

Greenhead Flytraps Ordered Moved From Federal Wildlife Refuge

I like that she is holding her ground. http://brick.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/brick-s-f-cove-now-barricaded-off-to-boaters Edit: was later forced to give in, most likely due to politics. Here is the site of the party town on water. http://thefcove.com/?page_id=54

Greenhead Flytraps Ordered Moved From Federal Wildlife Refuge

I'd like to put some turtle traps on the refuge. You see, I have friends in the pet store business. It should be okay. Plenty of turtles around.

ZR3 (USS Los Angeles) Entering Lakehurst Hangar for the First Time

That spot has a lot of Pityopsis falcata; sickle leaved golden aster. A lot of it gets damaged each year from the little projects that the Navy constantly has going on.
