Boy, that is a tough one with no tail. I'm going to throw this out there, and maybe the more experienced can confirm or dispute:
a.) Junvenile Cooper's hawk.
b.) Juvenile Red-shouldered hawk.
I have two comments:
1) Is the "E" missing in eatmor on the poster an error?
2) Was Hampton Furnace really that far down the stream from where we always thought it was? Or is it just me that does not really know where it is.

Al, I peed behind the tree, but not on it. Due to the size of the tree, a car could not see me for 400 yards in either direction as they approached.

Maybe they are in your area. Down here they make up and color our background and define our area of exploration and interest. We don't think of them as ugly.
